Hi v3g

Have you had any news on a Vista version of drivers for the 3G Connect cards ?

I have just upgraded to the final RTM but having problems with... drivers :(

It's not urgent but some indication of when/where/how would be appreciated ?
Havent got around to installing Vista RTM, still on RC2, but have got native Huawei and Novatel drivers running fine.

Good to hear, but you can't make such a blanket statement without telling more! :)

Did they install directly, how did you install them, did you have to 'fiddle' anything?, etc.

Maybe post a detailed set of actions and, if needed, ic can make it sticky for a while?

I'm pretty sure request for support is going to be posted here, repeatedly, as the upgrades to Vista start.

V3G, gotta say no special tricks or fiddling, just installed as normal. That is on Vista 32bit NOT 64bit

Huawei driver used (for E620) ... http://www.huawei.com/mobileweb/en/file/download.do?f=2820&ctype=1

Novatel driver used (for EU740) ... http://ftp.us.dell.com/comm/R129300.EXE

Since Novatel dont supply drivers directly, you need to find an OEM version. I used the DELL ones (you have to live with splash screen) for the DELL embedded 5505 module, however it looks like the package supports most Novatel cards.

Only other thing I do for safety (not sure if it makes a dif) is to insert card before loading the drivers, in this way Vista will use its own drivers for all the PCI bridge etc. devices. After that eject card, install drivers, then re-insert card.

Once install is complete, go into 'Utility/Dash' setup PIN, Network & APN and then it works as advertised. Oh one last tip, Turn off User Account Control in Control Panel->User Accounts so Vista stops bugging you about admin rights.

Thats it.

Ok, I think we all assumed you had magically managed to get 32 bit drivers to somehow work under 64 bit Vista - all our bads...
No my bad, thought and/or Vista (32/64). Move or remove posts if not relevant.

BTW why would you want to run 64bit ... unless your doing SQL or scientific calcs or need cr@p loads of RAM ... see no point, its no faster for 99% of stuff (maybe games in the way,way future?).

@Roman4604, assuming your PC [notebook?] has wifi h/w, as a what if workaround, could you try disabling the wifi adapter for the duration of the VMC7 install, does the VMC installer then get any further?
I'm sure there a hack somewhere on the net to get it to work. Will see when I get around to install Vista release B6000.

You can't install vmc on vista....yet.... :)
Was told by someone they got it working using instuctions off the net, will have to check? Probably just extracted the device drivers out of the VMC package and used Vista's native adapter connect/disconnect dialogs. Problem with that is your stuck with defaults hardwired into the driver e.g. APN.

As I said before, the Huawei & Novatel packages install completely under Vista inc. driver & connect/config util. Even if the next version of VMC works on Vista, I doubt I'd use it as the UI is far cluckier than the manufacturer's ones.
