Vodacom and MTN HSDPA card price variance

I purchased a MTN Huawei HSDPA data card recently because Vodacom would not upgrade my contract card that was 3 months old without me paying in R2300, I know they are doing it now but it is too late for me. I bought the MTN card outright for R1700, my brother just got his Vodacom card on contract and they are the same card. My frustration is that MTN charge R1399 for their card and Vodacom R2699, since they are the same card and neither is network locked why the price difference.

I saw some1 is selling the vodafone one for R50 p.m x 24 on weekender. that makes it cheaper than the mtn AND you get free minutes.

I'm not telling where cause I hate that place and I aint giving them customers :)

but where can I get the mtn for R1700 ?

This is a bit of a change! Usually the phone networks conspire in their cartel to keep prices homogeneous. I wonder how much of this is mark-up? Anyone know how much these cards cost overseas?

Check if you can't reverse the upgrade costs and get a refund + a free HSDPA card.. Without knowing the exact details of your upgrade, it sounds like it should be possible.

When did you upgrade from what to what?

Won't you PM me on where you got this ? I just got quoted R 3200.00 by MTN when enquiring for one wanting to compare pricing.

True, we have these weekly meetings where we fix pricing and decide who gets what part of which slice of the mobile cake.

It's actually quite democratic, anyone who knows the secret handshake can partake. (After the initiation, of course, which involves diapers and lots of sticky fluids)

Ouch, a bit low....

On the other hand, by now the whole world's been conditioned to know that everything started in America and Europe is just an American colony....

For me personally, the last straw was reached when Hollywood decided the Yanks stole the Enigma in the 2WW....

What next, an American movie where the Yanks won the battle of Pearl Harbour?

:D you lost out!! You could have got it for free!! :p
I think when you were quoted, voda was calculating the payin charges according to how many months you have left in your contract plus the charge of the card and maybe your monthly usage...

But then they wanted to be more charitable and give it away for free, without even extending your 24 month contract...

Shoulda just chilled a bit instead of feeling victimised, like Im sure you did!;)

i noticed that with MTN you pay R1399 for the card only if u take out a pro data contract at R9.99 a month. I went to a retailer today and they said they dont even sell em for cash.

I bought my card from Italk in Durban for R1700, got the invoice in front of me. I spoke to the guys at the Westville branch and they said I can get it for R1399 with a R9.99 per month contract but either way they do sell it outrite.

I picked up my MTN data card with a mychoice 75.. so for me its kewl and I added on a data bundle. Vodacom pricing is a bit more than MTN's.

Damn this bottle of tequila..
