Vodacom and MTN launch investigations into illegal phone tracking

Vodacom and MTN have launched investigations into the potential abuse of their location-based services by third-party Wireless Application Service Providers (WASPs).

This follows reports that cellular location-based services were used to plot the assassination of Lieutenant-Colonel Charl Kinnear, who was murdered outside his home on 18 September.

They should expand it to all abuse by all WASPs and then remove them.

It is "cover-your-arse" time with an "investigation" because someone was murdered because they enabled and allowed 3rd parties to tracking phones without users permission or court orders.

I think they can see the **** coming down the line and is just doing this to try to seem to be doing the "right" thing. Hope they get nailed.

Everyone worried about the track and trace apps and here's MTN and Vodacom with way more data practically handing it out. Wonder if people are going to get rid of their mobiles now.

Is there actually any good reason WASP's exist? Except to serve there own interests and obviously SP's support these turd munchers because profit.
