Vodacom and MTN's fleeting data price cuts

On my note 2 I have a 2gigX12 bundle. I jumped to get the 20gig for R499 from VodaCON.

In 3days I've used 13gig on my note 2,downloading stuff I've always wanted and because it will expire in 30days.

I don't understand why data should expire, airtime doesn't expire.

Vodacom and MTN's feeting data price cuts?

feeting

When some one inserts a foot for sexual pleasure into the vagina or anus. Similar to fisting but involves insertion of the entire foot. People who enjoy feeting are usually sexually aroused when some one threatens "Putting a boot in their ass."

adds a whole new definition of getting shafted by your service provider :p

Shameel Joosub, CEO of Vodacom has repeatedly defended its pricing strategy by saying that if something’s always on promotion, then that’s the effective price.

I don't recall Scameelperd being quoted as having said that before but I'm sure most of us consumers have learnt to ignore what comes out of his mouth, besides I think there must be a phrase missing at the end there, like '...for the duration of the promotion'.

ICASA requires approval for non-promotional telecoms price changes, if these promotions were intended to bypass delays introduced by ICASA as well as ICASA employees leaking info pending public announcement to competitors, I would not have a problem with promotions, but it seems far more likely that Vodacom and MTN are in denial about how unreasonable their non-promotional prices really are.

Strange that the article has a completely different title, the thread title is definitely a Freudian Slip of sorts (presumably supposed to be "fleeting").

i dont know why they are postponing the inevitable, let them drop these prices further because I dont see myself and anyone informed about what is going on about data prices buying these deals.

DAMMIT! Just too slow to quote the deleted post :) wanted to save it for eternity cos it was so poetic :)

Vodacom slashes data prices, but not really

That basically sums up any "price slashing" vodacom has ever done...

CellC is the best for prepaid data, especially for lazy people like me who don't want to keep track of data bundle expiry dates. Their normal 15c/mb data is much better than the other operators but the real winner is the 3GB for R399 that lasts 12 months. No need to worry about buying bundles for months. I just loaded another one yesterday. The previous 3GB bundle on my smartphone lasted about 6 months. Some months I hardly used any data and some months I used almost a GB. Very flexible and it works out to 13c/mb.

*Ahem*

"fleeting" is what it was supposed to be - apologies. That definition for "feeting" has scarred me.

Either way, 15c per MB with CellC...

V and M are leaking customers, too greedy to see the bigger picture.
They will only offer something decent when they see a drastic decrease in customers.
Until then, the will keep on milking Joe Public for as long as possible.

Just ported 3 MTN contracts to CellC.
Yes, CellC also have their network issues but damn, I am saving 50% on data and calls.
And all 3 on prepaid. :)

I'm porting to Cell C as soon as the MTN contract is up. Also I dont see why data bundles should expire. The only reason is to make more money. Thats it.

8ta 60GB +60GB for R1800 valid for one year .

This is a great deal for pure data usage. It's useless for smartphones though because you can't load it onto an existing sim. Same story for the CellC 50GB+150GB.

True. A good add-on for smartphones is still Cell-C's 3GB / 365 day voucher for R399.
