Vodacom BlackBerry Abuse: What will be done?

If it's only 500 users, that why not implement a 100MB a day cap - only 500 users will hit that cap daily so no biggy?

This seems to be defeating the purpose...

I think vc should find these users and charge them R2/mb and see how fast the abusers stop downloading...

This morning the bis was so slow I couldn't even load mybb... Got some message about not being able to communicate with the server. Maybe a cell tower issue, maybe something else, but this is really becoming an issue... Seriously considering CellC or going back to MTN... Virgin mobile is moot and 8ta is if I call a lot of landlines... Which I don't...

The point is... Heavy Downloaders should not be using this service for such. They should be paying for it through other channels. Especially if they are having to "cheat" the system to be able to do this. I have no problem with Vodacom coming down hard on these guys. I hope they nail them.

I download often using my device, file sizes of a max of 6MB and I download around 100MB (max.) On a FREE day. Will I be affected?

And so Vodacom keeps on shovelling.

Going public without a solid plan of action, upsetting your customers, assuring them you won't screw them over, then you DO screw them over while telling them that you won't, only to come back and tell them that you are ONLY NOW thinking of better ways to "protect" them from abusers, that are simply people making the BEST use of a service which Vodacom/RIM have always punted as UNLIMITED seems like a sure way to sink a telecom company.

Well done Vodacom!

Good, phone these abusing sods that degrade the service for everyone else that uses it the way it's designed to.

Well done Vodacom!

Best use of a service does not mean using exploits to download warez.

I noticed quite a nice speed increase in the last few days so if they have done something then it is working.

Perhaps all the leaches f-ed off before they could get caught. yay !

Well if your system is not working it's not working...
This happens throughout the world. Take the law....people exploit it.
that's the way it works.

FIX IT

They know who the 500 users are, wey not just buy them out of contract and terminate their service (maybe after a phone call warning them)?...or fix it :)

To put this into perspective, just 500 customers are at present managing to consume more data than 500,000 other customers who are using the service as per the terms and conditions

So the first plan they came up with was to kill the service for 500,000 users 'cos 500 caused a problem. Vodacom, where the compliant customer REALLY count. :whistling:

I think that even if Vodacom knows that even if they implemented a 2gig cap and that it would cut out the bulk of the abuse they would be unable to do this, because they would be effectivly be lauching a product (2gig for R60) that is out of line with their current pricing scheme/model...

The 500 abusers are hitting about a constant 30Mb/s (combined) on the backbone of vodacom and yet vodacom is boasting a 42Mb/s 3G services...

Someone clear it up for me, how can you offer 42Mb/s 3G service but not able to handle 30Mb/s on the backbone?
