Vodacom cracking down on BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) “abusers”

Uys previously reassured “normal” BlackBerry users (who do not download large media files) that Vodacom’s solution to this problem would not affect their services. This system seems to live up to that promise.
So large linux distros is fine ;)

Anyone who can download 300GB on vodacom BIS deserves a frikkin medal! I can barely download a webpage or an app update.

Gee, I could have sworn the speeds were already throttled!

Right so blame someone else as ususal for useless service getting so sick and tired of this and bitching here accomplishes nothing
Have you made any constructive comments recently? I seem to only find pessimistic, passive-aggressive and pure vindictive comments from you on MyBB...

Maybe consider moving away from the black-hole in JHB to somewhere with a little bit more sunshine :)

Rubbish anyone abusing the network should get cut back, BIS is not suppose to be your personal download system that you rape hard while everyone suffers.

It is there for email and some browsing, if you cannot handle that mtn has uncapped for 280, perhaps go for that option so the rest of us don't have to suffer with slow speeds.

You not getting what I am saying, of course abusers should be kicked off but do not for one minute try and tell me that this is why I can barely open webpages and do not try and blame one tower or one phone

I have to say Vodacom has improved their speeds a lot. Web pages load faster and when I download a song or 2, it downloads it in a quicker time than before.

You know that Jannie has made the offer to you on several occasions to help you take your business elsewhere? Why don't you take him up on that?
And bitching here won't accomplish anything.

Amen

Well i don't have that issue, everything runs pretty good for me. I think you just live in a bad area or something.

I use opera on my phone and webpages fly :D

have you been here for the last few years?
1st attempt got me nowhere.
2nd attempt is in process I e mailed him my details, again lets see ;)

Things have improved drastically over time - during the festive season BIS was practically non-existent on Vodacom network took over 100 refreshes to load mybb after the closure of file sharing websites I noticed within 72hours speeds were starting to come back. Sites loaded in no time - also Vodacom BlackBerry (BIS) is grown daily with approx 2million users or more. Meaning more money has to be spent on infrastructure. Vodacom have found a way to Bill Contract Subscribers if they download over (4megs) limitation(I remember if BIS went down it would use standard APN )

I hate to side with Marine1, as I dont usually moan about things...but Vodacom!?
I signed up for a Blackberry contract in April last year and all I can say I have been paying for a almost non-existent service.
Loading pages (facebook/google/wikipedia) timesout 98% of the time.
I have been charged for data usage in the excess of R450 for data some months besides the regular BIS. (I haven't the foggiest idea where I used this much data as i dont stream media or download any files. I just browse!).
I have left numerous complaints on the the Vodacom website, customer service and Hello Peter, only to be returned a generic answer that i will be billed for services rendered. (what services I ask you?)

So yea, this minor increase in speed has NOT wow'ed the pants off of me.

Thank you very much! Rant Done!

Vodacom FTW!
I have often complained about Vodacom BIS and now that there is some attention being paid to stop the abuse, the service has improved dramatically. I still sometimes get the dreaded "requesting" and timeout, but that is now happily the exception.

BIS is now at least usable.

Thank you Pieter and team. Please keep on ensuring that we get the service we are paying for.
