Vodacom wants to make money out of eSIM that's why there's a delay, ask yourself how did MTN get it wright?

Telkom mobile will have eSim support by end of February. I'm lucky enough to have it working already
Alas, they will only support smart watches by end of the year. For now, I have my iPhone linked to the eSim and it's been working without any hiccups
I’m patiently waiting for this

Trying to get an eSIM with either Vodacom or MTN has been an absolute nightmare!
From clueless consultants to various stores sharing contradictory requirements.

Ja ja Vodacom. You are just sour because Apple doesn’t let you dictate to them what model iPhone you would like to sell on your network.

The way Samsung and most other manufacturers are too happy to supply you with non-Dual sim models only to suite your agenda.

Anyways MTN(eSIM) and Telkom work real nicely together on my phone:p
How did you manage to get it on MTN? Tried two stores today who were clueless. The more I tell them it should be possible the more they say it can only happen if I take out a new contract :(

Go back to the mtn thread and see how to do it.

It works on existing contracts not on prepaid.
perform a sim swop and then choose an eSIM to sim swop to. Tell them to open the Sim swop menu.

do note that your old sim will stop working immediately and the new Sim might only arrive 22hrs later via Email as a QR code.
Did it on the 20th at The Grove mall for iPhone 12. Scanned the QR code email and was done.

Thanks, but no luck at The Glen. They advised there would be an additional charge of R123 a month for the "service". Contradicts the eSIM training material where a charge of "Nil" is mentioned. I left it at that point. The service consultant was quite adamant that I should have to pay for this. Honestly a joke. Emailed Jacqui O Sullivan who advised all charges would be reversed, but hardly reassuring that MTN plays willy nilly with its billing. Don't want to risk having to call their unhelpful call centre to resolve. Will wait until MTN gets its act together on eSIM. Rather embarrassing considering Nigeria has had it for years...

Those consultants dont know what they are talking about, it is your responsibility to show them how to do it, dont let them walk all over you simply because they dont know and too lazy to find out. This whole process takes less that 5 minutes to do in store.

I think you're mistaken. It's not my responsibility to show them how to do their jobs.

In the real world its not your responsibility however in south africa it is your responsibility, if you dont do it then no one else will and you end up losing either way.

Don’t worry, they will be forced to . They won’t be able to sell iPhones unless they adapt.
Yes, that will almost certainly be the case, unless parts become even harder to come by.

Weren't iPhones the first to use micro-sim cards and later nano-sim cards as well?

It will make sense then for them to be the first to stop using physical cards as well.

I used a cutter to produce nano sims in the past when MNO’s didn’t have any

Vodacom, MTN, Telkom and Cell C already offer eSIM support, so the iPhone losing a physical SIM tray 3 years down the line shouldn't be an issue at all.
