Vodacom explains why its Uncapped 5G products have caps

Basic rule of thumb : Don't ever buy Data from Vodacom

My 100+100 data thing has served me pretty well till now but need to upgrade and plot life so no fibre or DSL.

Telkom and MTN are worse crooks than vodacom so they are out.

RAIN wants me to buy into a contract before I try

What else is there?

Since DSL went south, I been on Supersonic Fixed-LTE-A Uncapped, other than the service drastically slowing in the evenings it works well enough. No issues with them either.

Everybody is all surprised, why is this even an issue?

Vodacom hard caps its "uncapped" Home 5G products — here's why

Vodacom launched uncapped home 5G products in July 2022. However, the packages cut subscribers off after reaching a certain usage threshold raising questions about whether they are genuinely "uncapped".

While other fixed-5G providers implement fair usage policies (FUPs) on uncapped services, limiting speeds once subscribers consume a set amount of data, none implements a hard cap as Vodacom does.
@Jan break down the spectrum according to usage/what it is reserved for, stop attributing so much usage to Telkom Mobile.

Rain wants you to sign a contract? Really I have had a number of 4G Sims with them and have never heard an inkling of a contract. Even my 5G is no contract.

Deja vu?

Uncapped <> Capped, however you want to spin it.

Can you test rain without paying for the first month and setting up a debit order?

nope

However, the spokesperson specified that Vodacom set its caps “at an overstated usage value” that customers won’t reach, effectively providing an uninterrupted service.

“We are continually evaluating the data usage on these products, and our customers have not yet reached the hard lock,” they added.
Vodacom still after all these years out of touch with their customers' needs. Maybe people aren't hitting it because they're trying to stay within the limit? Like if you buy a 1GB bundle you'll try to only use 1GB?

And calling large caps uncapped is scummy. Just call it what it is, a large cap.

Did you notice how they try avoid getting quoted using the word cap. Their marketing department must have sent a memo out telling everyone to avoid using that word. Its been replaced with Hard Lock.
The linguistic gymnastics is astounding. If this is the effort they put into marketing rather than their products it explains their poor service.
