for the past 3 nights in a row i have been having constant gprs problems. constantly unable to connect on both APNs. everytime i phone customer care they say they know there is a problem and will keep trying. THERE'S BEEN A PROBLEM FOR 3NIGHTS IN A ROW. why cant vodacom just fix the problem PERMANENTLY. i am fed up.

ive exceeded my call limit to customer care complaining about this problem. the fact that there is a call limit absolutely flabbagasts me. what i dont get about this gprs problem is it doesnt effect my sister. shes on the same contract as me. but her internet works. when i stick her sim card in my phone. internet works. but on my sim. no sorry doesnt work. you think customer care could explain t8.

i apologise for this disjointed post but im making it with my phone on opera mini. its a miracle im online at all. ive come to realise one thing tho through this debacle. VODACOM CUSTOMER CARE IS ABOUT AS USEFULL TO THIS COUNTRY AS JACOB ZUMA. why cant vodacom sort these problems out. hell even when i was milking free net it wasnt this bad. whats going on man. FIX IT

and ic if you edit or delete this post <deleted by="ic" reason="very off topic gay germ chatter"/>. you have no idea how hard it is using opera mini on this dam phone.

Get yourself an MTN prepaid starter pack at P&P (I got one for R2) and add say R30 airtime.

You can then convert R10 of that to 10MB of data...valid for a month - no month end issues.

When VC GPRS is down, I can use MTN, and when MTN GPRS is down, I can usually use VC.

and again tonight. . . . you know really what is going on? is there like somone that presses the big red button at vodacom everynight at ten oclock or something? its quite rediculous. what i dont understand is why it only effects me and noy my sisters number... shes on the same contract as me paid for by the same person yet she is unaffected. could be my internet APN? cause I CANT ACTUALLY SEE MY SETTINGS on my phone cause they are LOCKED. so i have no idea what IP etc my Internet APN uses...? hey i may be totally wrong about this... but i figure someones gotta figure out the problem if vodacom doesnt want/know how to???

go out on a limb and get 3g. its a tiny little bit more reliable than gprs on a mobile...

Just get yourself a Virgin mobile sim. I've been using mine since they started here, and never had a problem connecting. Vodacom gprs is crap here anyway, vm give me the best speeds (even though I only use gprs)

I used to be impressed that I could simply connect my phone to my notebook anywhere and get connected, but that was 1998.

GPRS or any of the advertised protocols have never lived up to the initial hype and future ones won't either, they will always fall short of what is advertised.

Just like you will never get food that look as good as the picture on the menu.

Product experience may vary ......... batteries not included.

It just goes to show how much they care.

VODACOM CUSTOMER CARE IS ABOUT AS USEFULL TO THIS COUNTRY AS JACOB ZUMA. why cant vodacom sort these problems out.
JZ has a standard 4 so VC Customer care just pips them to the post.:D

and ic if you edit or delete this post i swear i will hunt you down and give you my gay germs. you have no idea how hard it is using opera mini on this dam phone.
Oh Oh! What's a "gay germ"? Canned hunting is banned (unfortunately);)

Best advice all week. MtN is even cheaper at Shoprite at 99p for a starter pack. Pick 'n Pay just increased it to R5.79 so don't go there, even if their airtime is discounted.

I've tried Virgin. Their GPRS is hit & miss. (Customer care too) When it works it is a tad speedier than MtN.
I won't even speak about Vodacom. I think they've put a disaffected trainee in the GPRS division, hoping he will drive people on to their 3g network:rolleyes: .

Vodacom Gprs Quality Complaint

Hey gaytechie,

i know i know all about voda so called GPRS
wanna hear my story ??

i dont know how to start a new discussion in here, so ill just add my story under yours for now...

About a 3 months ago i decided: i'm going to get Internet.

I heard that vodacom has a service called GPRS and you only pay for data amount up/downloaded.
i said: "Great, it sounds good."
So i GPRS enabled my sim, CONNECTED my phone to the PC, and tried to connect to the GPRS server.
I struggled the whole night.I tried the next night, same story.
I forgot about the whole thing and decided "Its not for me"

So last month i tried again and walaaah! im connected !!
I browsed, googled did banking transfers and emails and after about 50 min, it just stops recieving data.

I thought: THATS FUNNY.
So i disconnect and connect again, this time it refuses to connect and gives me error 734(PPP link at server terminated)
I phone 111 (Voda customer services), the guy answers and says:
"Oh, yes, the GPRS SERVER is down again, dont worry, they are workin on it"

I think to myself: 'ok, i wonder how often this happens'

Over the next 2 weeks i tried to connect numerous times: during the day, connecting was an absolute NO NO.
AFTER 11:30 PM was the time i was SOMETIMES lucky and got connected and got to do about an hours work b4 it just stops
recieving.

How frustrating !!!

I then came to the conclusion that it must be my handset or the nearest vodacom tower bieng faulty,

I MEAN, THE WHOLE NETWORK CANT BE THIS BAD ??

So i phone customer care again.... i tell them i think my handset or the tower is faulty.
They dont even do the effort to take the tower name to log the complaint with the engineering department for them to check quality.
I ask u, is this what the company's, internal communication between the departments have come to ??
If it goes on like this, we could experience a total NETWORK MELTDOWN !!

I then connected with MTN a few times and it was like heaven on earth !
Every time i connect, it is sucessful, and i stay as many hours as i like, no freezing of data flow, no PPP SERVER connection errors, oh man....

So i phone 111 again, they say i must phone 155 (voda data helpdesk).
After about holding on for bout 30 min, the guy answers the phone, i tell him about my connection problems.
he says to me: "Oh dont worry thats normal, the whole GPRS network is very irratic, overloaded and unstable"

I say: "WHAT THE HELL ?? Why do u even advertize GPRS services if it is up to %$_#&* !!"

Whats the use of giving a serivce if u cant deliver !!

I mean, yes vodacom is situated in DARK AFRIKA, but what the hell; they call themselves a world class company, and they give us such Cr_p SERVICE ??

Go try these fong kong methods in your Lesotho or Tanzania network, please, we want KWALITY !!!

In this time ive tried MTN and i must say, everytime i attempted to connect, it succeeded and the connection was always stable, Thank God, Somebody's interested in business.

And dont use the excuse that GPRS is a new technology and you're getting into it, for goodness sake, you've been doin GPRS for almost 4 years now, and you're still not stabilized,
PULEEEEZE , I ask u ..?? !!

vodacom, i think stick to voice calls and leave the data to the BIG, experienced guys like Sentech, MTN & TELKOM

And Vodacom CEO(mr. A-N-C), dont try to sue me for this article, because i'll back sue u for all the data loss, time loss and cracked screens that were broken in utter frustration over believing your broken promises that u can deliver stable, fast data.

Yours faithfully
loyal Vodacom subscriber
