Vodacom launches international roaming bundles

Vodacom has launched international roaming bundles to keep its customers connected in more than 200 destinations worldwide, with prices starting from R99 for 1GB of data.

Travelling Vodacom customers can choose between data-only bundles or a combination of voice minutes and data, all of which will be valid for seven days.

The app only gives me the option to purchase the combined voice and data bundle.
The data only bundle for R349 for 5GB is not showing on the app

When you go overseas you get a calling card or a data bundle at a fraction of the price charged here.
when you get back here change the sim and off you go.

I think I paid £10 pounds for 30gb data and unlimited local calls for 30 days in the UK. So local sim probably more economical in most situations. Unfortunately I couldn’t get esim on prepaid which would have made it even easier.

Been using https://www.airalo.com/ so I have 4G upon arrival, then get local eSim once settled - most countries support this by now.
Keep SA physical prepaid sim on roaming to keep it active and useful for OTP's etc.

I wouldn't trust any SA operator to not stuff up the billing. Will still just get a SIM card at the destination...

It just so happens I'm in UK and Finland for a couple of weeks from Monday and the comparisons are...

Truphone eSim = 5gb @ R270 for 30 days Europe (converted from 15 Euros)
Airalo eSim = 5gb @ R347 for 30 days in Europe (converted from 20 USD)
Vodacom = 5gb @ R349 for 7 days and I don;t know if it's only for the country you selct or regional like the other ones.

I've used both Airalo and Truphone eSim on my iPhone while overseas and compare before both before settling on one depending on destination.

So Truphone it is. Thanks but no thanks Vodacom.
