Vodacom invests R9.6 billion in its network and IT

Vodacom released its financial results for the year ended 31 March 2019, which revealed that the company increased its capital expenditure in South Africa to R9.6 billion.

“Our capital expenditure of R9.6 billion was utilised to drive our strategy of being the leading digital telco,” Vodacom said.

A comparative MTN figure is in this MyBB article about how MTN became the best SA network:

https://mybroadband.co.za/news/cellular/255991-how-mtn-became-the-best-network-in-south-africa.html

"Over the past three years, MTN has invested over R30 billion in its network, and its network rollout in 2017 was the largest in South Africa’s history."

So MTN's expenditure per year is similar to this Vodacom figure. I wonder why MTN outperforms Vodacom then in every objective way you can compare the networks?

Perhaps the bit about Vodacom increasing their capital expenditure is a euphemism for them frantically spending substantially more than usual as a result of finally realising that MTN simply has better infrastructure. And perhaps losing the right to call themselves SA's best network, something that has been a lie for years and only possible through deceptive marketing, finally got through to the executives.
