If you have a Vodacom data only account with a 1 GB bundle be warned that if the 1GB amount is exceeded Vodocam will charge out of bundle fees without any requirement for confirmation of data usage.

This is blatantly irresponsible.
Why would anyone want to continue with any extreme amount of data transfer on out of bundle rates?

Surely they should require some sort of formal confirmation of usage if the amount of out of bundle data exceeds some reasonable value of say 100MB?

I do get a SMS when there is only 5MB left but that will depend on how you use it (if your device can show you SMSs).

TelkomMobile is a good option if you want to leave Vodacom, you data use is hardcapped. If you go over your data allocation is guides you to a info page where you can buy more data.

They will tell you that they sent you an sms and that's all they need to do before raping your bank account. Doesn't matter if you got it or agreed to it.

Don't count on it. I get SMS when data is depleting around 400MB (pretty useless), but 5MB? I have never seen such message on full contract (with NightOWL). I get message when all data allocation is depleted. It comes with delay and when it happen, you are already in OOB area. And remember that 24 hours later you might get added some outstanding usage from the previous day, it could add 50MB a time.

I'm on VC prepaid, no big OOBshark for me, maybe just a nibble into my airtime...

Have contracts with TM. No OOBshark nightmares for me there.

Strange. I get an sms when I go below 700mb then 400 then 200 and then one telling me I have run out of data, oob prices will apply. These notifications come through as sms and Vodacom app at the same time.

Phone the call Center and enquire about call limits. It may not solve the problem fully.

These SMS notifications are pointless when you have a data only contract where the SIM is in a router or any other device used only as a hotspot.
The SMS's are sent to the same SIM number only - they are not visible unless you specifically check.

Done that.
You can set a limit, but this is only based on usage per month - not on whether it is in or out of bundle.

This is not very helpful because then you cannot use any bundles over the cap amount either.

The issue is that Vodacom purposefully hopes that you do forget to check usage or cannot check usage in order to have oob rates apply.

If they were trying to be helpful and actually cared about their customers they would prevent excess oob from happening without confirmation.

They will tell you you can change the sms number.
