Not necessarily. I saw an instant jump in spam when I ported my existing number to VC too.

I'm inclined to agree though - its likely the RICA process that is leaking not VC itself.
Vodacom itself doesn't do it. They have 3rd parties who they 'trust' just to send their own marketing. Since I am on the DMA 'do not contact' list for spam and continue to get it, it's clear that the system is flawed.

Don't give your number to shops either because that allows them to abuse it.
