South Africa’s largest telecommunications operators are divided on whether the Vodacom-Neotel deal should go ahead

MTN is large, the other arent...
Offcourse MTN is upset about it, both Vodacom and MTN receives little to no spectrum for LTE. Now Vodacom has a little bit more than MTN.

Telkom has a whole lot of spectrum and had an unfair advantage over MTN and Vodacom, now Vodacom is more of a threat to Telkom.

If Vodacom is allowed to acquire Neotel and it's spectrum, then it'll boost Telkom-MTN Deal where MTN will take over running of Telkom Spectrum, which would mean the company worse off in all of this will be Cell C, as Neotel will have financial backing of Vodacom, Telkom/Telkom Mobile will have financial backing of MTN, and Cell C will have no financial backing to compete fairly.

Yes/No? Depends on the perspective...

As a consumer, hell yeah!

From a regulatory perspective... currently no but a tentative yes if they set very clear regulatory guidelines, especially regarding the transfer of spectrum.

Not going to happen...

I say approve the sale, but split the Neotel spectrum equally between the 3/4 remaining providers.

No
1)Vodacom is big enough (and bad enough )
2)5 Billion for the spectrum and the backbone is a bargain .
3)They will strip Neotel and many people will loose their jobs .
4)One less company as competition .

Any reason why all submissions except those of Crystal Web are in the article. It's rather puzzling...
