Test from Faerie Glen Pretoria

Below is the data used to calculate your download speed:

Download time: 37.859 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 107.8 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 13.2 (kiloBytes/second)

Still gets disconnected, only 2 bars. V3G any ideas? Maybe an antenna would help?

Thanks ic. I am using a 3G data card, the Vodashop in Brooklyn Pretoria told me they have no stock and when they get I must pay for the antenna.

They said that to me too (Greenpoint, Cape Town). Insist it is free. Mention this forum and that Vodacom 3G support on this forum said so. Worked for me.

I will try the approach and see what happens. Does anyone have any more ideas as to how I can better my connection here in Faerie Glen? I have swapped the SIM card for the 64K one. Only option I can think of is the antenna. Thanks all.

V3G I am getting three bars, but message connected to unkown network - Riviera 3, Pretoria

V3G
I am not getting 3G off the Rietfontein tower - signal 4/5. When I switch 3 G on, signal drops to 2/5 and tower changes to Les Marais but only outdoors. I take it these towers in the area are not fully optimised or something.

Nope, brand new 3G data card, there is even place in the box for the antenna but it was empty. The store told me that they are out of stock.

>SoftDev, what make/model is the data card? Option or Novatel?[/QUOTE]
Novatel

Riviera 3
Signal 4/5
Download time: 131.98 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 30.9 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 3.8 (kiloBytes/second)

ic I'll try, maybe phone a few Vodashops and see who has one.

I have another question, I see that some of the people here are able to determine to which tower they connect. I read the FAQ but could not find this, how does one go about to do this.

Another note, I can hear the thunderstorm outside, and my connection is now jumping between 2 - 3 bars. Usually it is 2. I would have thought that it would go down.

SoftDev, what make/model is the data card? Option or Novatel?

Maybe you should put a kite out..Made another guy quite famous...

The Cell-ID's people report are the 2G cells, not the 3G ones. But often, these give an accurate indication of the area you're in.
