Vodacom Pre-mature upgrade delay - Help needed!

I Recently had to do a premature upgrade since my old handset just decided to stop funtioning... I contacted the vodacom upgrade department and ordered the handset and also pay the applicable fee of over R800 ( including the usual R150 admin fee it came to about a R1000) That was 8 day ago. The person on the other side assured me that the handset will be delivered to me within 3 - 7 working days. After the 4th day i phoned just to check if the phone has been sent to me yet, where the consultant informed me that they are only expecting stock of the HTC s710 from the 7th of december (bear in mind that my due upgrade date is on the 23rd of December 2007) after which it will take 3 - 7 working days, so if all goes well i should receive the handset on the 14th at the latest. The consultant told me that his hands are tied and that their is nothing that he can do to speed up the process. I then asked what happens if my phone only arrives on the 20th or 23rd... He said well, Vodacom won't refund the money and it basically comes down to me losing a grand. How the hell is that possible??? any suggestions or ideas???

and even though it may not be his realm, have a chat with vodacom3g, see what he can arrange. I just decided to bail on the premature upgrade simply cos of the costs they attach to it.

Go hunting in the Vodacom forum, and send him a PM...

But be nice to him, cos it very definitely isn't his area of expertise, or what he's here for but he is usually very very helpful.

You should not have accepted that you would be on Backorder.

If they say your phone is gonna be here in the next month just ask them to requote you with new premature fees.

Only if a month has passed, its calculated by months and not days, so if it takes 15days from the beginning of the month you fees won change, but I suspect its now Dec so your fees should be lower.

Thank you for all replies. I posted my problem on hellopeter.com and got a call from Vodacom within a few hours. My handset will be here tomorrow.
