Vodacom dominates in South Africa

There are four main players in South Africa’s R200 billion fixed and mobile telecommunications market — Vodacom, MTN, Telkom, and Cell C.

Vodacom dominates the South African mobile telecoms market with a 43% share of revenue, followed by MTN with 26%, Telkom with 23%, and Cell C with 8%.

MBB always tells a different story about MTN. Now that we see figures, we see another story. Vodacom is better and bigger than MTN. If they were not, the figures would not be as we see them in this article.

Revenue growth can also be a sign of how bad the value of their product is to consumers and how they are stuck in contracts and cannot move.

Numbers need context

how about showing market share by say the following 3 metrics
1. voice minutes user
2. data usage totals
3. daily active subscribers

MTN however is investing more in their network compared to Vodacom. That is not too say Vodacom is sleeping though. I drive a lot for phone deliveries and as I am driving I can see my phone switching to 5G very often. So much so that I want to say that the Vodacom 5G coverage map is very much conservative when it comes to showing coverage. As the new spectrum is freed up when the TV broadcasters vacate those bands that Vodacom bought spectrum in, I suspect we will see 5G coverage expand quickly and 4G coverage improve where there are deadspots or weak signal.

Really thought MTN was doing a lot better and CellC a lot worse.
Cell C is doing a lot worse, at some point it was above Telkom. Cell C is waiting for its death. There's honestly nothing left there, it is just a matter of time.
