According to Vodacom, Makate’s court papers showed that the capital amount alone was R9.7 billion with 5% revenue share, growing to almost R29 billion when adding mora interest.

When calculated with 7.5% revenue share, the amount becomes R63 billion with interest.
I don't see an issue with Makate's statement, he's asking capital amount of lowest 5% revenue in ruling, which this is about, and then asking for lowest interest as per breach of contract, which is a separate matter. He's asking for R9.4bn in revenue for his idea, this is correct, and he is technically entitled to interest on that amount (compounded or special) and he's forgoing that for only the breach of contract one which is around 30% lower.

Dislike MyBroadbands heading here as reporting only as Vodacom says is a bit biased. The original headline says what he will accept as compensation for his idea, so the base amount from which to argue interest.

He did say 5% from the start as he originally wanted 10%.

But its amazing how much Vodacom made off the Please Call me, and why they want to pocket it all even after they agreed a contract with him.

What contract was that?

His terms and conditions of working at Vodacom probably included a clause that anything invented belongs to VODACOM.
Why they even entertain this is mind boggling.

From a business standpoint, there's no way an employee would get even 1 billion for an idea. Only way he would have earned this type of money is it he set out on his own and created a system that he then licensed out to Vodacom and other cellphone companies. But he didn't do any of that work. The courts really messed up by concluding he's entitled to a portion of the total earnings from each PCM which Vodacom developed based on his concept.

When Vodacom offered him 47 million he should have just accepted, invested his money and lived off the interest. This guy is incredibly greedy considering what he actually did.

Still, I'm waiting for the guy from MTN to sue Makate when he finally gets a settlement from Vodacom since he owns the patents for this system already.

They're not arguing anything Makate said here from my understanding, they're arguing the SCA ruling being vague and unenforceable.
