Still haven't decided, have till tomorrow - the P8 Lite hasn't gotten good reviews :(

It's competing in the budget category against some very good bang-for-bucks brands.

What are your most important requirements?

Almost all of the reviews say it doesn't compare to other phones in the same price category.

Yeh, problem is those phones don't seem available on contract here...

Requirements, not much - a decent android phone thats not slow. I don't play games much, and don't take many pictures... mainly use it for email, messaging - and managing my house PCs remotely.(restarting, etc)

Mmmm. I dont think we have anything else in that category from Vodacom that I am aware of. 5" QHD screen, octa cpu, 13mega pixel camera, LTE etc etc. Only thing that would come close is the Sony M4 I think, and that is like a R1000.00 or so more expensive. If you look at other brands that is not available here then perhaps, but not from the network side I would say.

See that's the problem with the South African Operators they don't have any other phones in the same price range, they only keep a few brands, Samsung, Apple, Nokia and Blackberry then spam sooooo many ads at us the average Joe don't even think there are options. O well in fact no operator keeps are willing to supply any other brand because demand is not high. Demand can't increase if people don't know other brands or are unable to get hold of other brands.

For what reason the operators can't have a minutes only contract with the option of them sourcing which ever phone you need and letting you pay of the phone in 12 - 24 months during the course of your contract. Without them actually having to keep stock of phones.

But you can do that with a reduced subscription contract? And then just get your phone wherever?

NOTHING in the budget category has 16GB internal storage except the P8Lite. Ever since Ice Cream Sandwich internal storage matters a lot. I wish VC had more 32GB phones. Luckily this year I can go flagship (though unfortunately the Z3 still only means 16GB internal storage), but if I couldn't the P8Lite would dominate my phone choices ENTIRELY cuz of it's 16GB internal storage VS the 8GB of everything else in the category.

Huh? No...just someone who has run out of space on an 8GB S4 Mini (5GB user available) with very little on it whilst my sister with her 32GB S3 hasn't even had to think about space (24GB user available) and has so much on it that she's run out of RAM instead.
And I've also seen a 16GB Z3 in one of VC's stores on display and the phone was showing as full with almost nothing on it (like 4 games and a few other apps...less than I have on my current phone) out of it's 12GB user available memory.
And Android's recent inability (although apparently it's back in Lollipop) to actually make effective use of external storage...in other words nothing being able to install to it properly...doesn't inspire much confidence in phones with 16GB or less internal storage.

So yes, VC really needs more 32GB phones/needs to stop offering only the smallest memory option if there's a choice among flagships. *looks at the P8*

Yeh... I don't have issues with size :p I install very little.

Still can't decide though - I'll make it my wifes problem - tell her the P8 Lite or P7 and see what she comes home with... the P7 is R150 cheaper/month.

The P7 is the smarter choice, the P8lite has very little to offer over the P7. In your position I'd probably go for the P7. Higher screen res, stronger processor, same memory, same cam, better battery life. Just Android updates may have already dried up for it and the higher screen resolution may be too much for the comparatively weak hardware (Huawei does their own chips which aren't as efficient as those of competitors at the same Ghz)to handle. That the P8lite wouldn't have to worry about (due to being newer and lower res), but it's weaker everywhere else. Certainly no benefit VS the extra monthly cost.

Didn't VC discontinue the P7 a month ago though? Stock might be iffy.
