Nope. I only post when its official. Even though it might be good for the skin...I do not like the texture of egg on my face.

To my knowledge there is not one with a hardware keyboard at the moment. The last one we had was the Desire Z and that was discontinued last month sometime.

Hi, oc

That's very strange. When I first started looking, a friend of mine told me to look for the Desire Z, but I gave up on that idea after you told me this.

Then I found this deal with 8ta: http://www.8ta.co.za/plans/plan/contract-2#39

That's really not a bad deal at all! And I've checked and there's 3G coverage everywhere I need to be. How come 8ta's got this deal but Vodacom doesn't? Are you sure you can't get me one?

I've been with Vodacom, on contract, since late 1999. I obviously don't want to leave them, but I would actually port for this phone!!

Failing that, are you aware of any new phones with full-size screens and hardware keyboards coming next month (I know the new dealsheet's coming on 6 September or something)?

Cheers

Things OckieMoto do not respond well to:

1. Blackmail
2. Threats
3. Guilt trips
4. Withholding of sex (not relevant here...but just mentioning anyway)
5. Any combo of the before mentioned points.

Grappie :)

Now that we got that out of the way....no...I am not aware of any sorry. Seems that most manufacturers aint that keen anymore on the "slide out" keyboard anymore. I know that the Motorola Droid models have them but I honestly dont know if we will see that range of models coming to SA. I suppose that would depend on if Motorola can do a succesful relaunch so to speak of their brand here. I think they are very much testing the waters at the moment and see how we respond to the models they have launched and will from there on decide what to bring here next.

We do have this one though. Not sure how you feel about Sony though.

It is also on the spreadsheet.

It's not guilt or blackmail - you don't control what Vodacom offers or not (at least I don't think you do), so you wouldn't have been able to do anything about it anyway. :p I was just making conversation. ;)

Yeah, I saw the MotoDroid. Looks bloody nice! I asked you about it, and you said it wasn't here yet. Besides, it'll probably be out of my price range.

I did see the Sony. It's Windows Mobile. I've had a Windows Mobile device for my past two upgrades, and I want a change. I'm a mobile developer by trade, and all we develop on are WM devices! :p A bunch of my techie friends have Androids, and from what I've seen I'm really impressed. But I'm not sure yet if I'm willing to give up my hardware keyboard (I have a Samsung SGH-i780 right now). I know that the Android SIP simply cannot be compared with the WM one (which is crap), but I'd like the option for the next two years, so perhaps my NEXT upgrade won't have one. ;)

I looked at the HTC ChaCha as well. It's very appealing (although I'd like to see the F button replaced with a T button :p), but the screen is very small, and if I'm going to at least try to get used to Android's onscreen keyboard, I really need a full sized screen.

There. That's my sorry tale. No blackmail, threats or guilt trips implied. As to the withholding of sex, I'd like that EXPLICITLY stated! ;)

Cheers

ocleroux bru! I am due for a upgrade, but I want the Blackberry 9780 OR the Nokia E5 (mainly for the GPS) - can you give some advice on how to get either?

I'm on a weekender, have been with Vodacom for like ever, I spend average (R450) per month (come down from R800!) and keen to change the package if need be, so long I don't spend more than the average!

Righto....here is how I worked it out. Keep in mind this is a recommendation ONLY....not the 10 commandments cast in stone ok?! It is up to you to decide what you do with this info.

I worked out your average minute usage by checking your IB worked it out as follows:

Invoice 1 220
Invoice 2 152
Invoice 3 120
total 492 / 3 months gives 164 minutes per month on average

I would suggest with that going onto the Talk 130 @ R315 per month and this will give you 130 minutes anytime any network.

Once you go over that you will be charged as follows:

Domestic Calls
Vodacom to Vodacom R 1.49
Vodacom to Other R 1.85
General Service Calls R 1.85
Value Added Services R 1.85

Also consider having either one of the below bundles activated as I saw that you use between 10 - 30 meg of data also:

MyMeg 10 @ R9.00 per month or MyMeg 30 @ R25.00 per month

You could also consider removing Itemized Billing and save R17.00 per month if you do not require this service.

So....This is what it would look like

Talk 130 @ R315
MyMeg 10 @ R9.00

TOTAL = R324.00

The average spend on your line according to the system is R539.00 including VAT. So if you can stay withing your bundle limits then you can save a bit every month on your bill.
