speed.vodacom 1054/340. Been getting less than 1Mbps the last few days.

What happened to 3.6Mbps????????
If this 3.6Mbps option only rarely works then I don't see why I should take the 3.6 option

Back in PE - Humewood
20:43

Download Speed: 1314 kbps (164.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 345 kbps (43.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

I won't pay extra for the 3.6G until it's at a point where I reliably get >2000kbps.

Which is obviously why Vodacom decided to make it an optional month2month subscription fee that one can cancel if the backhaul capacity in specific areas that one frequents, is insufficient, makes perfect sense does it not...

So should we periodically subscribe and pay to see if backhaul is sorted?

My speed is fine usually around 2Mbps, my problem is latency. (have hit 2.7 Mbps)

On the other hand my MTN prepaid sim gives speeds of just of 500Kbps but latency is perfect.

Yea i'm talking about online gaming, its totally unplayable with Vodacom, i have to keep swapping sims.

Vodacom to browse and download stuff, and MTN to play games online.

What is up with the latency?

Hi kvi!!

The E220 can do 7.2Mbps with a firmware update, but if you haven't bought one yet, I would suggest you get the E272... you can plug an external antennae into it...and it's a sexy little number. :)

I have to agree. Online gaming with vodacom is becoming a real pain.

I have a top up contract at the moment to it does not make sense to get internet from a different provider. BUT my contract expires in April and I don't think I will get vodacom again.

Around 50% of the round-trip?

Funny man :D

Let me try: Why is it that the Vodacom latency is so unstable? I would get 600ms - 900ms ping playing Guild Wars then suddenly the connection stops. No data is sent or received for a few seconds. Then the connection continues and the last ping is reported to be anything from 5,000ms to 20,000ms and pings comes back to normal.

After a few minutes this happens again. Over and Over and Over and Over. Every single day.

BTW, I am in Wynberg, Cape Town.

Great, we upgraded the server last night.

As I suspected it was under reading at higher speeds. Looks the original config was spec'd for 1.8Mb/s.

It now is more indicative of what you can get with the higher speeds.

See if you can run 2 speed tests concurrently and watch the total throughput with DU Meter.

No approved 7.2 firmware yet. Don't upgrade it with any old firmware you can find. Trust me on this.

I know what you mean with the latency. Chatting to engineering about it.

IMO forumites should be looking for packet loss when experiencing high latency - I suspect the high latency fluctuations have a lot more to do with backhaul bandwidth contention, i.e. when the backhaul capacity is at the max, one would start to experience higher latency and packet loss, and when demand for bandwidth decreases, the QoS increases, ergo the fluctuations.

That explains it perfectly. I do experience extreme packet loss at times for up to a few minutes. Then suddenly everything is happy again. Given that nothing changes on my side it can only be happening at vodacoms side :(

Just got 2278kbps peak download according to E620Tool doing speed.vodacom.co.za test, average was 2026kbps. My first experience of VC's 3.6. :D
(v3g & morkhans, you can stop sending me screenshots now)

Strangely though, the upload test never completed, this happens quite regularly. The data stops and the needle keeps hovering between two numbers and I never get my results page.

My experience with this is that it is a flash/firefox issue because speedtest.net has done the same to me. I often see the upload get stuck half way and then I end up with something like 14kbps for my upload. IE never seems to break in this way.

Around 19:00 this evening I clocked just over 2400kbps on speed.vodacom.co.za, again the upload stopped responding after reaching 100%. Here's a photo of the upload hovering between 149 and 150kbps.

I am using Firefox.

IE is broken in so many other ways. :D

More wierdness. speedtest.net to JHB shows 4878kb/s / 350kb/s :eek::D:confused:while Mobile Connect shows max 1.6Mb/s / 374.8kb/s

speed.vodacom.co.za shows 3031kb/s / 347kb/s and Mobile Connect shows max 2.8Mb/s / 374.8kb/s

Now who's lying? Mobile Connect, speed.vodacom or speedtest.net?

speed.vodacom.co.za and MC are close enough that the difference can be deltas and polling frequencies.

But that 4.8Mb/s?? Hmmm.....
