No sign of the 2-3 mbps speeds I had on the 3.6 launch date.

That's a bit better, but it's not near 3.6 nor is it consistent enough. My local tower (Brixton water tower) is probably also one of the busier ones, due to its location?

Thats true,I myself couldnt get onto the voda network! When i did it kept dc/dc/dc ended up using the vlive apn on my pc (sad i know) it worked for an hour .....phone 155 they said its my port what did my pc do to them?

A VC tech has made an appointment to visit me tomorrow as a result of me reporting very poor speed etc. which has not been a problem today - typical huh.

I've actually come to think perhaps the Vodacom speedtest it too short in order to reach the full speeds if 3.6 is enabled ? It seems as though it's busy accelerating to higher speeds before the test runs out ...

I was also not happy with the speed.vodacom.co.za test, so we changed the file size last week to be dynamic, i.e. the system will now do a short test and then pick a file size depending on your throughput, the better the link, the bigger the file.

Open up 2 speed tests in two windows (or three!) and try and start both as close together as possible. First open DU Meter and then watch your max throughput.

Will be keen to see what you get. We might need to tweak the test a bit more.

Do the same for speedtest.net in JHB (Cpt is flaky) and let us know.

Make sure you guys do a bank of tests together. To speed.vodacom.co.za, speedtest.net to Cpt, JHB, NY.

If you can FTP a few files from ftp.saix.net to get a feeling for a longer period of activity.

Remember, because we give ping a very low priority on the network or even block it all together), ping tests might not give an accurate latency result.

I haven't done what v3g suggested as yet .... but I decided to try my speed and wow ...2624kbps down and 345kbps up.

Now THAT I'd pay the R50 extra for

Opened two windows and started them at the same time :

1136/362 (1st)
1218/351 (2nd)

Although they were neck on neck at 80% ... the 2nd slowed down heavily there after and only completed the download test when the 1st had finished EVERYTHING.

And my real world test was done at www.mxit.co.za and I downloaded the PC version (6MB). I got 5.92MB in 1 m 06 seconds. Now although that's pretty quick, I thought 3.6 would be faster on local.

Or is that a fair speed?

The E220 can do 7.2Mbps with a firmware update,

any idea where one could find this firmware update? google?
