Hi Vodacom3G

The results look impressive, but peaking at 2.02 Mbps?

Is this test only available to Vodacom IPs? Can not access it from ADSL…

Regards,

RPM

I run my PC on 380V 3-phase, so it's often up to 50% faster than normally connected PC's! ;)

The software reads the byte counters at a fixed interval, but sometimes there is a small shift in the delta-time, so you'll get funny spikes such as 2Mb/s.

There is no requirement to make the site available from outside the VC network, so maybe the DNS (or routing) is not propagated.

And then there is the 380v 3-phase,amp sucking firewalls...you don't want to mess with those :D

Download Speed: 19019 kbps (2377.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 9265 kbps (1158.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Please note the above readings are an indication of your current download and upload speed on the Vodacom network.
The scale on the meter indicates theoretical maximum download speed for each technology.
Actual results will vary depending on network load and radio conditions.

Upload Speeds:
Current upload speeds are up to 64Kb/s for 3G and up to 384Kb/s for HSDPA.
GPRS and Edge uploads are generally 25% of your current download speed due to handset limitations.

Results (Authentication needed)

You do realise I'll now get 22 PM's asking why they're not getting the same speed!

But in the not too distant future you might see something like:

Download Speed: 6819 kbps (852.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1265 kbps (158.1 KB/sec transfer rate)

Quite scary....but very

Virgin...who ?

:)

The test is for Vodacom IPs only :/

So if you're roaming on Vodacom with Virgin for data the connection is routed over the Virgin network and not Vodacom's at some point then? (Presuming he's roaming on Vodacom if he's using HSDPA)

It's more an issue of how the routing is configured. IP addresses assigned by the VM network won't find a route to the box running the speed test. Only the Vodacom APN's can see it.

Will see what it'll take to change, but security reasons might prohibit it.
