I run my PC on 380V 3-phase, so it's often up to 50% faster than normally connected PC's!
The software reads the byte counters at a fixed interval, but sometimes there is a small shift in the delta-time, so you'll get funny spikes such as 2Mb/s.
There is no requirement to make the site available from outside the VC network, so maybe the DNS (or routing) is not propagated.

You do realise I'll now get 22 PM's asking why they're not getting the same speed!

So if you're roaming on Vodacom with Virgin for data the connection is routed over the Virgin network and not Vodacom's at some point then? (Presuming he's roaming on Vodacom if he's using HSDPA)
It's more an issue of how the routing is configured. IP addresses assigned by the VM network won't find a route to the box running the speed test. Only the Vodacom APN's can see it.
Will see what it'll take to change, but security reasons might prohibit it.
