Both cards in the router...E620 for 1.8 and E630 for 3.6.

I did a little testing just before the storm hit earlier here in Benoni..(No jokes now,ok...)

Both tests were Identical.Router power off, card swap and power on.Open Firefox browser, log onto My adsl,go to adds, check out every add topic available.
I did a double take on the e90 cell phone,so did the same with the second test.

I cleared netmeter of all data for the 2 tests.
First was the 1.8 E620 in the router.Power off and start up..
Router to pc handshake was about 52 k,full connectivity to internet was 124 k..
First test results are as follows...Total data transferred was 935.2kB

Second test was identical except for the change to a 3.6M E630 card, same router, same test.
Total data transferred with 3.6M was 1.52MB..

I know this is not scientifically done under lab conditions, but realistic test done on my computer at home.

Actually, when we see a 3.6 profile on a 1.8 device, we employ the new 128XQAM algorithm that employs quark-spin to transfer half the data instantaneously while the other half is done over the network. With clever reassembly you have full 3.6 capability, even on a 1.8 device.
Klingon speak ,right?:)

Try the Netlimiter monitor, should give you a detailed breakdown on which app uses how much data.

@v3g, will that include data transferred in both directions, i.e. for both the upload speed tests on speed.vodacom.co.za as well as normal uplink-direction IP traffic resulting from downlink-direction traffic, e.g. the normal TCP uplink-overhead when downloading etc...?

Could include speedtests but I need to check if I put it in the original list. The moment we make things free, people start abusing them. Seen subscribers run scripts just to try and stuff up the network.

(We'll probably move all zero-rated URL's behind the 4me login, so we can keep track of it.)

Zero-rating will also be per URL, i.e both up and down.

Rated URL's will also be up and down. We don't look inside the packets to see what you're up to (we don't need to, remember we trace your activity just by you posting here ;) - according to Skeptik, in any case), so we don't know if any uplink traffic is causing downloads. You could be uploading, doing a video conference, etc.

Sticking the speed test behind a login will be a bit of a bummer, but I suppose I could live with it if it meant that it did not count against my data usage.

Making it zero-rated would be a great move. I'd have no problem with requiring a v4me login.

Thx to VC ;)

Well, in a weird sense you have to thank Telkom (watch ic have a hernia!). For some reason you're in an area where backhaul was obviously available.

Pity we can't say the same about all Vodacom customers. Poor old Dex_10 is in exactly the reverse situation.

Mind you i've had a couple of times tonight that i had to disconnect and re-connect because of pages that stop loading. But 1 refresh is good enough then it's OK again. I'm OK with this, cos after the VM experience this VC is like driving a Merc.
