After my last result of 2900/1100 I'm for sure forking out R49 :)

(And yes, I pay for my own data cards and cell phones )

The uplink gives a distinct snappiness to the browsing feel.

V3g, I see on your profile that you live in Plattekloof. I live in panorama a few hundred meters from plattekloof and I've never seen speeds of more than 1.9mbps. Just accross the the N1 I get 2.9mbps with the same setup.

Why is panorama not getting good speeds?

Site selection is an issue in Panorama, i.e. the guys battle to get sites to put up towers. How close are you to the hospital?

I actually don't get good speeds in Plattekloof, just tested now and got 1500/1050. I also suffer from the same site site selection issues.

The high speeds I post as typically when I travel away from home. The 2900 I posted above was at the airport.

PM me your physical addr. and I'll as the guys to comment.

ok. Hes been fooling us then with supa speeds that no one else can get.:p

More like teasing....;)

Not really :).......there was an interesting situation a while ago where a network provider claimed that they have 7.2 available to subscribers but no-one could find it.

I'm kinda showing the inverse. Vodacom is not claiming to have higher speeds available for normal subscribers, yet the network can deliver it, anywhere in the country, if you've been activated.

So why don't we just activate it for everyone? Will do as soon as we believe the backhaul can handle a large number of users.

So consider me your advance testing team. :)

Do you think we can expect 7.2 HSDPA to hit speeds of around 2-3mbit? ;)

Would pretty awesome to approach the speeds of ADSL 4mbit users!

*cough*

Backhaul depending, you'll get around 5 - 6 Mb/s on the 7.2 profile. 2 -3 is achievable on the 3.6 profile, again backhaul depending. I'm getting more and more very close to 3Mb/s around the country. So the backhaul is slowly increasing (but then so's the user base...)

When is ADSL going to give 1Mb/s in the uplink? ;)

When will LLU actually start, and when will Telkodemonopolies have wired copper Local Loop competitors offering ADSL2+ using their own fibre optic & DSLAM etc network infrastructure...

Hmmm...becaue of Telkom's boycott against supplying me with DSL, I don't really stay on top of what is available today....

Current uplink max is 640Kb/s?

Telkodemonopolies should actually patent its special brand of customer disservice - although I don't think there is another company on this planet that can provide more of a disservice than Telkodemonopolies does. I had another interesting experience today with the beast - a line of mine that has been dead for months and was finally fixed last Tuesday, suddenly died again this afternoon - death by technician stuffing about at the roadside distribution box - the monopolistic beast's incompetence knows no bounds .

I've been waiting 5 months to get a phone line installed, don't even want to think about how long ADSL'll take once that's done.

Off Topic I know, but I recommend that you consider applying for a [searchforum]"waya waya"[/searchforum] pre-paid line [ZAR250 including 12 months rental {ZAR120} and installation and a handset], and when it is installed, convert it to post-paid and then apply for ADSL.

Do you think it'd be quicker than a postpaid line? I thought about doing that but assumed they'd give priority to postpaid lines (higher revenue etc.), applied for Closer 2 so there's no installation charge. They've given me an installation date of 24 April so we'll see, although they have been digging up the road for the past week to install cables so I suppose that's progress. Thanks. :)

 And I thought we had it bad when our office fax line was down for a week and a half:eek:.

What we normally do when we have a line problem at work is:
1. Log the fault on the national fault line.
2. Call the local Telkom office and tell them you've logged the fault as per 1. above and then ask when will a techie come to sort out.
3. Repeat step3 at least every 24 hours for good measure, and they usually get irritated and move you up the fault list:D.
