I bought a promotional data bundle of 500 megs at the start of April and rechared with another promotional data bundle of the 24th of April.

My balance from the first data bundle was added to the second data bundle and the expiriry was said to be the 24 May.

Today I check my balance, and it is 0 mb.

And I have incurred data charges from my airtime balance. The sim was not used for data since about the 27 or 28 April, when about 400mb was available and when I used it tonight, I discovered my bundle is depleted. How is this possible. I just checked the balance by chance, if I hadnt I would have lost all my airtime.

Vodacom Rep. This is blatant theft.

If Vodacom is anything like MTN, Just forget about it.

13 Years at MTN and I have not won 1 dispute.

I had a similar thing happen to me. I bought a 20GB promo bundle late March and then topped up with another 20GB promo mid April. The new data bundle was added to my existing data and all was great. I checked my data balance before going to bed on 28 April (I think this was the date the first bundle would have expired) and I was at 6GB remaining. Woke up and went to work on the 29th and when I got back my balance was at zero. called Vodacom and they confirmed that my last usage was just after midnight the previous night, but told me my balance was nil at that point. I explained this was impossible as I had checked the balance and it was at 6GB. They promised to log a fault and get back to me the next day with logs of the usage... I am still waiting three days later.

Just remember, their systems are very slow or lagging.
The balance you look at is not real time data (this from my experience with them).

I'll PM you, need the MSISDN (cell number) on which you bought these bundles. If anything outside of the business rules happened, we'll sort you out, no problem.

This is not an error. The 20GB bundle lasts only 30 days. i.e. not to the end of the following month like the normal Vodacom bundles. So it expired on 29 April because you probably bought it on 29 March. I'm guessing the last bundle was used first instead of the older one.

I had a similar problem. Vodacom refunded the missing data and my airtime that was used.
The problem is related to the promotional data deals and their systems.

I would agree except that I am fairly certain there was no more than 1 or 2 GB on the previous bundle when I bought the new one. At worst I would have lost that data when the first bundle expired, but certainly not 6GB. There are also a number of other users who are having similar problems... one poor guy lost his entire 20GB bundle overnight.

I am pretty sure this is a timing issue and that loading a second bundle onto a sim card (before the previous bundle has reached expiry) results in the system reporting you have a new bundle expiry date (by sms), but the backend keeping the older bundle date as the expiry on all the data.

I have still had no official feedback from Vodacom on this, but I am sure this is what they will find and hopefully they will sort it out.

Guys,

If you bought another prepaid promo bundle of EXACTLY the same size while the first is still valid, and your balance went wonky, you need to call customer care with your details so they can investigate.

For example, buying a 20GB and then buying another 20GB while the first one is still active, could result in this.

Those who already made contact with me will already be in the process of being sorted.
