Vodacom supports Starlink being blocked in South Africa because of BEE

Vodacom says satellite operators like Starlink should be held to the same standards as terrestrial operators, particularly regarding local ownership, control, social obligations, performance, and sanctions.

This is according to the Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa), which released its consultation document about a proposed licensing framework for satellite services.

Well duh. Find us a business that welcomes competition.
Right now, where I live, this is Vodacom's only calling card. I'm not a client because I want to be, but because there's no other option.

Well considering satellite operators can't actually base their businesses in every country they offer service to it seems reasonable to make an exclusion for Starlink. Nevermind the enormous benefit Starlink will give to the population at zero cost to the government, it’s a no brainer but even that is too complicated for the retards in the ANC

Off course they making money off of it. Dumb fcks I support anything that gives Vodacom drama from now on.

Where is Nkosana Makate? Go claim your Billions from Vodascum.

Rather ask how much Vodacom pays the SA Gov to keep competition @ bay. It's still mind boggling that the SA Gov want 30% of any business without lifting a finger in doing something. Your 130+ Race Base laws don't paint a kumbaja pic either. Socialism & communism working well in SA.

Typical Vodacom reaction, they don't appreciate competition at all!! Idiots compared to mtn who is embracing the technology, although not with Starlink, but still. Vodacom wants to be in the good books of the government, like a spoiled child.

Well if the ownership rules get relaxed it may benefit them as well. So win-win?
