Vodacom call center is unable to give me a straight answer. They say it will, but i'm not so sure. Perhaps somemone had a similar experience.

I was on a topup 315 contract. Applied to switch to prepaid and this will take place on the 31st July 2012.

However i have about R900 worth of airtime (not minutes). Will this fall away, or will it carry over to my prepaid?

Idea is to switch to prepaid, ensure no cock-up billing surprises. Then switch to a Cell C topup contract. Although if my R900 worth or airtime carries over, i'll use that up and then move to the big C

I carried over R670 on a topup 135 they did say you need to load some airtime as well.
I found it best to write to customer care on email, then you have it recorded.

BUMP.

I am in the same situation. My top up is expiring this month. I have ~R900 airtime. Guy at Vodacom telling me I will forfeit my airtime if I switch to prepaid. WTF!!!

Im sure they cannot take away something I paid for?

Right so here is an update after my hellopeter complaint:

Dear xxx xxx

We called you on 0xx xxx xxxx, but the call was unanswered.

Please be informed that when you cancel your contract and convert to prepaid, the unused airtime will remain available to you on the Vodacom prepaid network. Airtime will only be forfeited if you delete your number with the cancellation request.

I'm on my way to a Vodacom shop in a few hours to see what they tell me, then I'll show them my trump card ;)

I wouldn't mention this now at all. Just convert, and if you have lost the airtime, use this reply on hellopeter as basis for your complaint. They will have no choice but to re-instate your airtime on prepaid.

I'm thinking in the lines of prevention is better that cure...Or why would you say I should wait till after?

Because they will HAVE to honour their hellopeter response to you, regardless of what the actual rule is regarding this.

So I go to vodacom and this dude help me, he tells me straight I won't loose my airtime and it will take 5 mins to take effect. As soon as he clicked apply I got an sms saying I am now prepaid, with all my airtime and data still intact.

Why is it that the first time you inquire about something new you always get a "NO" from a not so competent individual, but then after that you go back and you get someone who actually knows his ****.

Oh well, case closed. Hopefully this will help some people in future.
