has anyone else seen the survey email from vodacom. It's not sent from a vodacom email address - ( Vodacom [vspdata@emc.co.za] ) I know vsp is vdc service provider co but the domain is wrong. It's asking for a bunch of personal info. Seems a bit odd to me..

Anyone know if it is legit?

Got it three times from the same email address claiming to be from Leigh-Ann Orffer, MANAGING EXECUTIVE CUSTOMER CARE & RETENTIONS, VODACOM SOUTH AFRICA.

Going to have to assume it is not legit. There is a link to http://www.vodacom.co.za/Temp/Vodacom3.jsp on the page so you could compete the entry there.

Vodacom seeking personal details

Hi Guys,
I received an email from Vodacom this morning "Vodacom [vspdata@emc.co.za]" stating that they would like me to update my personal details in the form in the e-mail.

I am a bit suspicious about this one. Have any of you received it? Is is Legit?

They entice you to complete the details by offering the following:

"Once we have received your information you will:
Receive 30 Free SMS's within 15 days after we receive your updated information. An SMS will be sent to you once the free SMS's are loaded. SMS's are valid for 30 days.
Automatically be entered into the draw to win a 7 night 5-star cruise for two on board a luxury liner to the Caribbean or Alaska, in a balcony cabin including all meals and daily entertainment, return business class flights, cruise gratuities and R10 000 spending money per person. "

Most of the details they require, vodacom already has on file, i.e. Name, Surname, ID number, DOB, Gender, residential address, postal address etc. Why would they need this again (unless doing s CRM cleanup etc)

Let me know if this is legit. Also, sending such information via email is not the most secure, not sure i would want to send this.

I saw a vodacom e-mail this morning, but didn't pay any attention to it ... but I got exactly the same one. Don't respond to it ... just leave it be ... you can update your info on Vodacom4me if you really feel the need

I also thought it was phishing at first but it comes from the same address that sends me my invoices and statements every month so i think it's genuine.

Better play it safe and don't send any personal information.

What do they need it for anyway?

This is actually a legit mail.

The first time I saw it, I also thought it was a phishing attack, but I checked and it's all legit.

I wrote a long mail last night to the people who sent it explaining about phishing and identity theft, etc. Thing like sending from a non-Vodacom domain (it was sent by the billing engines) is just silly......

I'd suggest to not use the e-mail form but rather log into 4me and update your details that way. It's secure and you still get entered into the competition.

So, all above board.

v3g, I feel like the billing engine department is ignoring me - I haven't received any such email :( - unless it ended up in my spam folder & I always just delete stuff in there without paying too much attention to the contents - I have come to trust that when GMail identifies something as spam, it is almost always spam.

Apologies for the waffle tangent there, would I only receive such an email if registered to receive my bill via email, or does the system look at the date & time of last update & only send out the email to customers that haven't updated their info for a long time?

PS: What is the SMS number I must send my email address to, to get register to receive my bill via email?

As part of an initiative to gather customer information, all Vodacom Service Provider Contact or Top Up customers received a communication requesting that they update their information. In return they will stand a chance to win a 5-star, 7 night cruise for two to the Caribbean or Alaska.

Customers that receive their bills via post received a letter with their 3 November invoice. These customers can update their information in one of the following ways, by:

Completing the form on the back of the letter and faxing it to 011 546 9049, OR
Updating their information online on www.vodacom.co.za or www.vodacom4me.co.za
Customers on email billing received a similar letter. The email included a form which they can complete online and submit with their information. The email was sent from our e-billing centre and as such is a secure channel. Should customer be concerned about providing their personal information via the email form, they can also use our secure website www.vodacom4me.co.za where they will be requested to register and log in prior to updating their information.

Customers who have more than one line on an account, should update the user of the line's information. Please note that the account holder's information or address will not be changed by updating this information.

Queries - Please direct customer enquiries to cruise.competition@vodacom.co.za.

All customers who have updated their information will

Receive 30 Free SMS's within 15 days after we receive their updated information. An SMS will be sent to the customer once the free SMS's are loaded. SMS's are valid for 30 days.
And the customer will automatically be entered into the draw to win a 7 night 5-star cruise for two on board a luxury liner to the Caribbean or Alaska, in a balcony cabin including all meals and daily entertainment, return business class flights, cruise gratuities and R10 000 spending money per person.
Please be assured that Vodacom will always treat our information as confidential.

Regards

Will get the e-mail SMS for you.
