The vodacom4me.co.za data usage stats are way off. Days never mind hours. What's up?

Be careful! It always happens at this time of the month. Don't be fooled by those stats because when it eventually updates you've already exceeded your bundle by a couple hundred megs.

Think it could be intentional to get us into the R2/MB scam?

It's only a matter of time before everyone uses more than one sim card (from different Service Providers)
I current use my Virgin as my main, and Voda to make calls during off-peak.
I like Virgin but i must admit that their call rates are a bit expensive especially if you make a bulk of you calls during off-peak times.

I use vm for data, vc for calls and mobisms for international sms :D. Vm have one rate for calls so they are kind of cross subsidising. Peak users pay less and off peak users pay more. But for short calls vm is the best because of the per second billing.

i doubt it. The system probably gets jammed up because everyone with data bundles starts checking up on usage close to month end to make sure they don't exceed their bundle or to make sure that they use up their bundle in time.

Is more than 3 days and still no updates. I'm not even using my account cause I'm scared of hitting R2/mb. My account says I have 400MB+ left on a 500MB bundle, even though I only had about 150MB left on the 10th of the month.

I have seen no posts claiming there are problems? Their service sucks.

At this time of the month i tend to find a large jump in my usage - which is not always consistent with my usage.

I have had Vodacom 3G for 3 months now and I have ONCE been able to check my data usage using the service provided.

I have found that even though you may get the "We are currently experiencing problems accessing your account information.
Please try again later." , if you then go to your ordinary login and check your account balance etc it displays the info you're looking for.

Unfortunately this is the only way to check data usuage especially if you are using a router

Vodacom4Me behind

I have noticed that vodacom only updates these data usage rates at about between 9AM and 11AM, in their sms and on the site they say that this information could be up to 3 ours late, but it is usaly more. The one time I found it being 12ours late atleast

Vodacom must get their databse updaters more up 2 date

No, not yet.
Thx V3G.
What would you advise? Should one not look at the stats on V4Me or what means must one use to gather usage?
VMC or something similar? This probably wont cover all usage seeing routers / other connections aren't catered for.

The official answer is to use vodacom4me, but with the understanding it can be up to 3 hours old.

That's the party line. In reality, stats can be older than 3 hours and at HSDPA throughputs can be quite a lot of data.

So the best bet is to monitor directly on the PC, but again you're let down with the inconsistent VMC.

So the only answer is to do it yourself. I found the best bet is to install a monitor such as DUMeter or Netlimiter (there are others) and monitor your own usage.

Check vodacom4me periodically for the official view, as you'll be billed according to the data as seen on 4me.

Also consider putting a soft-lock on your account.

I need to check on how to monitor directly on the router.

Netlimiter immediately caused an error in nortons once installed. Couldn't scan outgoing emails. Removed netlimiter then nortons worked fine again.

IMO using Norton to protect your Windoze is like infecting yourself with AIDS to remove the need to practice safe sex. Get something|anything better than Norton...
