Vodacom's Congo fixer legal battle draws in the diplomats

I don't know hey, how do one earn R396-million for work done between "May 6 and July 31 2007" and between "September 12 2007 and August 31 2008" That is like less than 2 years? And if I'm not mistaken there has been talks still in last year of Vodacom maybe pulling out of DRC so doesn't seem like anything was fixed. We'll have to wait and see...

exactly, also if you agree to SA as the legal jurisdiction you can't really get anywhere by filing in the DRC - unless you have some judges in your pocket on that side...

To anyone else bothered to know the truth about how business in DRC works,a company I worked for had to close its operations because the manager there did not know how to do business there.

Here in SA you have to sometimes put money under the table....In the DRC its done out in the open, the buyer will demand his "commission" infront of the CEO etc.....I know because I've had first hand dealings with companies there and its ended badly for us because of our goody two shoes attitude in the DRC its a dog eat dog world out there in DRC and clearly thats why vodacom knew that the only place to get proper justice for both parties would be in South Africa.

If the contract is a South African one then it should be legally claimed here. For that guy to buy out a judge in the DRC will be childs play.(judging from how openly easy it is to buy out CEO's there)

Ahhhh so now it comes out, you are all for corruption and dodgy business.
Thanks for clearing that up

I'm not,if I was I would be rolling in dough now but unfortunately our company folded because of our insistence on doing "legitimate" business. The company now only has 3 small branches left in SA.

If anyone manages to do "normal" South african style business in the DRC then they should please contact me as they have managed to do the IMPOSSIBLE.

Vodacom was wise in this case to make the contract a south african one.Thats not corrupt at all, just avoiding the corruption of DRC.
