Vodafone Branding - P990i in particular - Can we get rid of it?!!?

I got a Vodafone SE P800 whilst working in England - all they changed was the startup & shutdown screens (actually looked very funky). Now they put the whole Norton Internet Security suite on it.

Ye and the K800 they went as far as changing the buttons and the screen surrounds!

Ok...I went to Vodacare during lunch and I was told that it cannot be done for the SE M600i...I really almost started crying. The guy at the counter then told me I must just phone back later because Mr X isn't in at the moment.

So I just spoke to Mr X at vodacare and thank goodness it can be done. I'm losing the blackberry software because it doesn't work on the SE's generic software UIQ 3.0, but who gives a crap right? I'm taking my phone in tomorrow and was told it will take about an hour to do it. They "clear" the phone completely and then load the generic software after which I will be able to update my firmware again using SEUS.

If it wasn't for this thread, I would not have known about this. Thanks guys! Oh and jiteshraj...don't worry man...you will get your phone back flashed the way it is supposed to be.

As I'm typing this message my phone is currently in the hands of Vodacare being flashed with the original software and the piece of crap VLive being removed. I was told that they weren't allowed to do it, but due to all the complaints at hellopeter.com, they were forced to start doing it for all customers who complain. Apparantly Vodafone buys the empty SE phones and then program it with their own crap...don't know if they get it cheaper that way...anyways...vodacare is no longer allowed to deny you the generic SE software.

Will be phoning them in an hour to find out whether it has been done....can't wait.

Vlive branding sucks, yes. The Nokia 6233 has a feature where you can choose to use 3G towers only. This is very useful if you want to use the phone for internet connectivity on 3G. But on the branded 6233 (actually called the 6234) this feature has been disabled.

This is a very good reason to rather go with MTN if you want this phone for data purposes.

Got my phone back and my oh my is UIQ 3.0 nice! This M600i is truelly an awesome phone. They even flashed it with the latest Firmware.

No idea...but if it has been branded, Vodacare have to flash your mobile with the original software.

If it has the VLIVE software on it with the ugly grey, white and red icons, it can definitely be better.

i spoke to vodacare at vodaworld about debranding my k800i, they told me they are not alowed to do it because of contracts with vodafone but that exceptions were made for P990s because vodafone gave problems with them.

That's ****ty - Vodacom really are stabbing their customers in the back by forcing Vodafone products down our throats. If you're really desperate to get rid of the Vodafone software you can do some research online - there is a site that does debranding but you need to order a special cable for it, and unfortunately you probably lose your warranty.

Yep, got my new P990i recently from MTN Southdowns shop in Irene - what a fantastic phone. This is definitely the coolest phone I've ever owned...UIQ 3 OS is so different from my P910's UIQ 2, you can't even compare it. Absolutely superb!!

I used DaVinci to debrand my Sony Ericson W850i and it was well worth the R 100.00. The phone itself has no Vodafone branding and only the firmware was loaded. 15 minutes using DaVinci and it was removed and replaced with the latest generic firmware and in my opinion much better.

Hi All

Just want to let url know that i just took my p990 to vodaworld. They are aware of the problem & are now loading the latest original Sony ericsson software, not the vodacom version, & definately not that vodafone software. Gona pick it up this afternoon.

By the way, apparently they'v had about 60 comebacks in the past 2 days. Were 5 guys in the q with me.
