Mams Try installing Hyperterminal
1. Open Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
2. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
3. Click Accessories and Utilities, then click Details.
4. Click Communications, then click Details.
5. Select the HyperTerminal check box, and then click OK.

Must be, my XP also doesn't show a communications tab, ALWAYS installs Hyperterminal, whether I want it or not!

Here is the Fix:D

Open C:\Windows\inf\sysoc.inf (the inf folder may be hidden)
find the line starting with commapps and remove the word HIDE (nothing else!)
(not even the commas)

Save the file, and try adding through add/remove windows components again!;)

without antenna: 18.0 and also gave 20.0 on two tests out of about 10 tests.The rest were 18.0

with antenna: out of 10 tests their were 2 times 18.0, 1 time 16.0 and the rest 17.0

Averages:
With antenna : 17.0
Without ante : 18.0

so the antenna doesnt work? I dunno?? as i said, at home i get my 3g signal by clipping the antenna onto the window burglar bar so it does work...

An observation:
The first time i clipped the antenna into the card, it was hard - made a click and stayed in properly. Now it just clips in loose and moves slightly out with small movements.
When i look at the clip on the Option card, the gold connector seems quite deep - could it be damaged?

AT+CSQ - You are misinterpreting the reading

Does anybody have more info regarding the antenna supplied with the Option HSDPA (nozomi) card?

I can't find any docs on the CD regarding the antenna.

If I insert the card and do an AT+CSQ, it reports 12,0 at my home. As soon as I insert the antenna in it's plug, I get 7,0 - to me this signal seems lower? I then stuck the antenna to an aerosol can, vertically, and rotated it in 45 degree intervals, each time I waited a bit then did the at+csq. The level is between 7,0 - 9,0 no more but as soon as I remove the antenna, it jumps back to 12,0. This just doesn't make sense to me and with no docs, I have no Idea how it is supposed to work.

The second issue I cannot find any info or docs on, is the status LED's. The staus LED info on the forum are not for the OPTION 3G hsdpa cards and I would love to know what they mean!

Here is the info of my card as reported by the ATI command in minicom.
Manufacturer: Option N.V.
Model: GlobeTrotter 3G+
Revision: 3.15.0Hd (Date: Feb 06 2006, Time: 12:53:15)

AT+CSQ returns: CSQ:<rssi>, <ber>

<rssi> (Received Signal Strength Indication)
0 = -113 dBm or less
1 = -111 dBm
2 - 30 = -109 to -53 dBm
31 = -51dBm or greater
99 = not known or not detectable

<ber> (Bit Error Rate)
0 - 7 as RxQuality values in the tables
99 = Not known or not detectable.

If you are getting a RSSI of 0 ---- YAHOO!!!
