I moved abroad and want to still be able to call certain numbers locally in ZA to sort some admin out.

Are there any VOIP services that I can use that can be easily topped up and used from my existing phone anywhere in the world?

I will use different amounts each month but if I need to call a call centre I don’t want to pay international fees.

a prepaid sim that has wifi calling should probably work as well..

In addition to freshpone, there is greydot.me. I have had good service from them ever since it was suggested to me here on myBB about 2 years ago

Thank you all. I have registered on freshphone and seemed slick.

I have made my first call and it connected and was clear. Felt like I was in ZA.

Will try for a while.

Thank you for the recommendations.

Any other PAYG VOIP providers in SA?

Freshphone started blocking m my topups on some of my numbers. Telling me I need to Rica or some shiit. Then when I do they say I have reached the max number of numbers that I can Rica per user.

WTF then did you let me create multiple numbers under one profile if you now have a limit?

Why do you need so many numbers? Freshphone is clearly marketed as a home VOIP solution. One or 2 numbers should be all you need.

Probably using the service as an outgoing call center or debt collecting

We have seen this multiple times as people now have TruCaller and mark these guys as spam, all they do is get a new number and try again

I have a few offices and at the time when Freshphone allowed you to port up to 5 numbers to a profile, that is what I did. We average between R150-R200 airtime usage over 2-3 months per number. So this is a kak cheap solution without any monthly fees.

Naah bru. We use our ported geographical numbers to do follow-ups.

Greydot will let you retain your old Telkom number

Seeing I make 20 calls a month and receive less than 5, I could probably do away with a fixed phone

Freshphone is closing down. Any suggestions for PAYG?
Yea I am in the same boat, seems like there is nothing available, greydot wants to run off an app, I am needing a pure VOIP number that I can use with my existing voip phone.

There is one VoIP provider which provides once off paid service and you get to keep the number for life. You may choose local dialing code such as 010, 021 etc or national codes like 087, if there is a need, you can port-in your existing VoIP number. Their website is https://speedconnection.co.za
