The University of Cape Town is looking for volunteers to take part in research!
HOW HEALTHY ARE COMPETITIVE COMPUTER GAMERS?
The aim of this research is to investigate the sleep, health and mental performance of gamers and compare it to non-gamers.
We are looking for non-gamers only; i.e. if you play games less than 2h per week.
You can take part if you:
1. Are male and aged 18-30 years
2. Are working a regular, full-time job
3. Are living in Cape Town
4. Are not on any medication known to influence sleep
(e.g., sleeping pills, anti-depressants, cannabis, Ritalin)
5. Play between 0-2 h of video games per week (i.e. if you are not a gamer)
6. Are free to visit our labs in Newlands on 2 mornings (1 week apart)
What is involved?
1. Complete a few questionnaires about your health
2. Have your height, weight, waist circumference and blood pressure measured
3. Have your blood sugar and insulin tested (approx 10ml of blood will be taken)
4. Perform 3 computerized tests to assess your mental function
5. Wear a small sleep monitor on your wrist for 7 days to track your sleep

* Please note that we do also reimburse you R150 toward travel expenses
