Truth about spying device found in Eskom CEO André de Ruyter's car

The circuit board Eskom CEO André de Ruyter found under the driver’s seat of his Volvo was likely the panic button of a pre-fitted tracking system.

“Based off of the photos that you have sent us, our third-party supplier Tracker have informed us that this could be one of their older devices that were fitted to Volvos a few years ago,” a Volvo spokesperson told MyBroadband.

Fivaz digging a deeper hole to try avoid looking like a dumbass? Just admit you made a mistake?
It's deliberate.. He's trying to drum up business for himself.

Hey Andre, please see the same device from my Volvo XC90.

What you've found was a wireless transmitter for your panic button - it was preinstalled by Tracker before the sale of your car (usually under the drivers seat). There's a nice instruction manual provided by Tracker which tells you how to activate the preinstalled tracker unit.

Sounds like it just came loose? - you know, like that "Loose bolt"!

Oh! If you had followed the wire from this device, you would of found a little button on your seat belt release - that's the actual panic button.

Not to be over technical, but the panic button completes an electrical circuit which then powers the transmitter which then sends a signal. Complicated stuff I know - to help I've added a basic electrical diagram.

Anyway, it's purpose is to relay a panic signal to the core tracker unit in your Volvo - which I'm afraid is now broken.

You've basically put your Volvo on Stage 1 "volvo-shedding".

Egg on the face of AdR. Lost a lot of credibility in 1 move.

Former police commissioner turned forensic investigator George Fivaz.
