1,400km electric road trip from Joburg to Durban in the Volvo EX30

We recently travelled over 1,400km on a long weekend road trip between Gauteng and Durban in Volvo's EX30 electric car and had an incredibly comfortable experience overall, despite some charging niggles.

The N3 has the largest concentration of charging stations of any long-distance route between major cities in South Africa.

MyBB getting their monies worth from this poor Volvo.

Park in a dodge part of Durban (which is every part) and some Nyaope is going to break the window to get at that "tablet"

It's all well and good descending the 2000m to the coast but how much battery will it take to drive the climb back to the Highveld?

Rather charge up to 100% at fast chargers and save yourself a lot of time. And use ABRP (A BATTER ROUTE PLANNER) APP

Notice the distance mentioned in the headline.
Then think about the distance between Gauteng and Durban.

After reading this article, I am now totally convinced that I will NEVER buy an electric car. Not even if it cost half the price of a petrol one. Problem is...these electric Volvo cost a SUBSTANTIAL amount mote than a petrol or diesel variant! Thanks but no thanks

I’ve hired on on my business trip I’m on. Nice little machines. Charging is a breeze

If there are problems activating a charger, contact the number at the base of the charger and they can usually set you up manually when you tell them your card number.
2. When you use the grid charger app to find a charger, it also tells you the power of the rapid charger so you can choose the fastest fast chargers available to speed up the charging process especially if planning a trip before hand. E.g. I would never fast charge at Mooiriver with their 30 kW charger when there is a 150 kW charger at Hilton with many eating options.
