VOX to VOX = 15c a minute.
SKYPE to SKYPE = 0c a minute.

Doesnt compare favourably to Skype for overseas calls and unlike skype they charge Vox to Vox. National calls are cheaper.

The problem is you still need to pay for analog line subscription, and adsl ontop of that. Unless you make and receive alot of calls, I dont see how this could be a cheaper alternative apart from the cost of the actual call. None the less, this is a step forward and hopefully having to pay 2 subscriptions just for the line will soon be a thing of the past. Has anyone enquired as to how many Vox numbers can be used on a single line?

Funny how its more expensive to make a local call than it is to phone international countries...

@Dastrix, that's cos mbeki told them to drop the cost of international calls to make sa more attractive as a call centre location. So teklom pushed up local calls and line rental costs and dropped international by 2% or a ratio close to that.
@Magneto, yup, but off peak is a non entity.

There are several problems with VOX
No 1 is that they have zero control over the quality of the internet connection - because you're still using a Telkom line.
Oh by the way the handset is R50 per month, but the recharger and cradle is an extra R75 per month.
They have no discount on local calls.
They tout that you earn money for people calling you, but this comes to a end as soon as ICASA finalises their interconnect regulations.
You would have to make more than R550 worth of national or cellular calls per month before you made enough savings to have paid for the phone & recharger rental.

The biggest problem is that with Telkom ADSL you have to pay for the analouge line rental. Makes an alternative to your fixed line that much less attractive, and you can already make cheaper VOIP international calls if you have ADSL. All seems a bit useless.

This is cool, my company is going to save around R40 000 a month thanks to VOX, and we are currently running a 3 month free of charge service with them to test it out before putting all are branches onto this, and so far no problems - touch wood!!

i remember a few years back, when DataPro (now vox) came out with their "unique BusDsl uncapped solution", the one with the netgear router and BSD box onsite.

it was the most crappiest solution ever ever ever ever ever!!!!!!!

i don't trust them, they technically useless. their call center knows nothing,
i call them to add simple NAT's on the work router and they cant even do that.

i am staying far away from them , really far far far away.

I was hoping it would work with my asterix pbx as an in or outbound route but a cc rep said it's not sip compliant.
