Hi!

Has anyone tried setting up a VPN and DynDNS on their Huawei B315s router?

I'd like to be able to VPN to my router at home while at work or away.

I tried this but on my software version 21.313.03.00.372 B315 I only get no-ip and DynDNS as providers. There are many more out there but I just installed the updater client to a Raspberry Pi to handle the hostname updates for me on an halfhourly basis.

As for VPN, this is still something I am working on but what I have currently is (rather unsecurely) a port forward on the router from some obscure port to my RBP via VNC, that way I can at least gain access to my RBP and access the router like that if need be.

But yeah, VPN is a works in progress although I am not sure how you would do it through the router itself as the options given to us are quite limited

Thanks man! Was hoping for a VPN as I would like to be able to have internet breakout via my router when I'm in China (they block a lot)

I'll see if I can get a rudimentary one working tonight or over the weekend.

If I can, then you can always find a RBP and go about it that way?

EDIT: so while waiting for helpdesk to call me back I'm currently sitting in my car with an open SSH session to my RBP busy setting up OpenVPN. The key generation is taking forever, but I'll update with progress

Update: my VPN seems to be working. I can access my router from my Android phone as we speak :)

Looks like it.

Will confirm tonight. It wasn't too hard either, just a few lines in the terminal via SSH. I got it setup while sitting in my car :)

Update: Looks like the B315, being a consumer-grade CPE, does not support VPN with the Huawei firmware. I am not sure whether you can get custom firmware loaded for it, but I rate your best bet will be either a PC at home with VPN software running on it or a dedicated router that can handle VPN. I also checked and my public IP definitely changes when I am on the VPN, so the internet is routing correctly through my Telkom B315 @home

If I were you:

Source a good second hand or new Raspberry Pi 2/3 with an 8GB MicroSD card, load Raspbian on it, configure it with SSH (optional), VNC (also optional if you find cmd-based SSH too tricky) and OpenVPN via PiVPN.
