VPN and port prioritisation

This is carried over from the 'old' forums...

The discussion was regarding packet loss / poor performance of VPNs over ADSL. Some posters suggested that it was due to the ports used by the VPN being de-prioritised by Telkom.

If this is so, can the VPN ports be changed?

Otherwise I would strongly suggest the issue gets taken up with Telkom via RPM because our VPN is absolutely essential to our work and it defeats the purpose if I have to plug in my 56K modem each time I want to use the VPN reliably...

Ports be changed .... NO.

Our Cisco VPN gateway in Finland serves many countries US,UK,France,Belgium .... I am the only one that has asked if the port can be changed. Seems a bit nuts to expect the rest of my collegues worldwide to change their setup, because my ISP is choking my BW. Which I reluctantly am still using :-(((
Over ISDN I do not experience this problem. That is primarily why I got ADSL in the first place, to increase my speed to our VPN. I haven't heard of any other country offering ISDN & ADSL, choosing ISDN over ADSL.

Friggin' INSANE !

ok, i am a bit late on this one, i have started using VPN to a client in the UK over DSL. AS you guys were saying last year the perfomance is appalling. i find that on dialup it is usable, but it is no longer usable through dsl. Strangely it was useable at the beginning of the year.

Wwhat have you guys done? Is ISDN the only way out?

Your experience will be much appreciated.

How can we compete in a world economy with such a product!

Telkom does this to protect its other older, higher earning service options... [:0] Sad but true... Those service options happen to be more expensive than ADSL...

This being said, it is possible to change the ports required. Whether a concerned party will do it, is another story...
