So, after more than a week after month end, my latency has still not recovered from the month-end rush. Seems a bit strange, doesn't it? As we all well know, performance naturally degrades towards the end of the month, especially on shaped ports. World of Warcraft, in my case, never has a latency of less than 1 second and is plagued by frequent and lengthy latency spikes. What has really frustrated me of late is that this situation seems to persist well into the next month. For all intents and purposes, Telkom's best effort service only provides an acceptable or useful service for half the month now!! I have half a mind to just settle half of my ADSL account this month, but the bastards will only cut me off and they won't even bat a sleepy eyelid.

So, in an act of desperation, I signed up with a VPN. For R30 per month. WHAT BLISS!! I am playing WoW at a latency of less than 700 and even more importantly, it is consistent!! No spikes whatsoever. None. Not a single one.

It is really sad that I have to pay someone else to get the service that Telkom should be providing in the first place, but hey, screw you Telkom. Someone else can have my R30 per month. At least I don't have to pay you DOUBLE just to get an unshaped account to achieve the same result...

Would be nice to know how/where to sign up :\

Sorry about that. The VPN I'm on is not a commercial enterprise, but more something that a group of people have set up that I am lucky enough to be involved in.

I think NukeCap also has a VPN specifically for WoW. Perhaps have a chat to them.
