Thats why I like openserves model more, for those that cannot pay normal prices theres the prepaid cheap option. For those that want faster speeds you can get it, all on the same network. Its awesome really
I agree with you wholeheartedly on this. Perfect model and will suit everyone to their own needs. Vuma reach have a Naspers model which forces you to access whatever they offer.

Hopefully OS will push them to change their model quickly to create better competition which will be to the benefit of us all.

For some it is, don't underestimate the the impact that the VR project has on FNO's. You are seeing the pressure on OS and thus is why you are seeing the refocus on Fibre in areas MP/Strandfontein that they would have never have serviced in the past. VR will evolve as the competition will now be enboldened to enter the areas that they have disregarded for years and years. Even the pricing of fibre was impacted by VR this you see even in the once monopoly that is Telkom/OS. Don't forget the age of we will no be expanding the ADSL network due to cable theft and no we will not be bringing fibre to your area.

My advice is use what is at your disposal not all of us will get a Ferrari because it is not always what you can afford.
I hear you, but you cannot paint everyone with the same brush and decide for the masses out there

Actually that is what they have done in our areas for years, it was dictated to us to have either ADSL, Broadband and Wisp., some areas up to this day never had ADSL. Then ADSL was pulled back in favour of Broadband and that is where WISP stepped up. Then due to VR that deployed there model now OS wants in. So that is where we are now. I am fully for competition but dont forget how we got here.

Also if you take a real good look at your areas just take a look at the overall uptake of fibre in the areas you might find it is not as much as we would expect, just take a look at all that un-utilised points which boads well for future speed upgrades.

Yeap, but the problem here is Openserve built their network according their normal specs, VumaReach uses far higher split ratios and lower amounts of backhaul capacity, so the network would need major upgrades if they want to compete with Openserve on the speeds front. For me Vumatel has been fine, but if I have the option to switch ill do it without hesitation, sure OS has a tad higher latency than competitors but that increase in speed will be worth it any day

I'm more focused on fast and reliable speeds then splitting ratios and degration of services. Like I said a good model is catering for all parties. I hate being dictated and being told what I can't have because of an inferior product.

People are already brain washed and being treated inferior

I agree, thats why id move away from vuma as their reach network is inherently inferior to openservs' at the moment, the only way id go vuma over openserve is if I move to a house covered by their trenched active ethernet network

Vumatel’s fibre network will be merged with Vodacom’s fibre-to-the-home and fibre-to-the-business assets.

I guess this means only vuma core will benefit, the reach model is different to their core model

I think this would be the stupid thing ever

does anyone know how to change the DNS settings on the Hauwei EG8141A5 itself?

You cant , option disabled , isp configured with their wan settings
You can change the DNS servers that are given to your devices via the DHCP settings, if that's what you are after.

I rather just use a Pi with Adguard Home or piHole installed for DHCP and DNS and just disable DCHP all together on the ONT.

So Turns out I could change the DNS settings for IPv6 which resolved an issue I was having with crunchyroll.

Yeah which works for ipv6 dest, but ipv4 dest you need a router hooked up over dhcp because vuma disabled users from changing dns on ipv4, as its preset in the wan config
I know it shouldnt have helped crunchyroll (as they do not support IPv6) but its no longer buffering and quality of stream is back to normal ‍

That's because most modern OSes and browsers prefer IPv6 DNS with fall back to IPv4, if it's available, so it's possible that the IPv6 DNS servers you were using wasn't resolving correctly, causing buffer issues.
