Vumacam - Vumatel's CCTV system to keep South Africa safe

They can expand their camera service into my area as quick as possible, so that I can eventually get the fiber Iv'e been asking for

Nanny state where you're being watched 24/7. Vumatel was offline for 3 days here in the Cape. Wonder how that will be for business.
 
Vumatel are bunch of outright crooks themselves. We would be safer without them actually. 25% increases and when you call them out on Twitter they block you. Bastards.
 
There should be less / no crime to start with. You can't justify putting up more cameras to keep na eye on crime. We should never have to live behind 2.5m walls and fences, nor CCTV to start of with. It became a norm.
 
We looked at this system last year for LPR and while it is attractive because they take care of all the heavy lifting (way-leaves, connectivity, dedicated control room etc.) it does come at a cost of approx R1000 per camera per month IIRC. If you consider the amount of access roads into the average suburb you can see how quickly that cost can escalate. I don't believe it's sustainable except for well off suburbs with well organized ratepayer organizations that can keep the funding coming.
