Vumatel’s big Cape Town fibre-to-the-home plans

I don't get it. They'd rather lay fibre in areas which already have it than expand to other areas of the metro. Its almost always the same areas

Guess its called securing your investment, those areas have high demand and they would make that R3 billion back in no time. They know those people would gladly spend close to R2000 bucks a month for a 100mb line and data. Not everybody can afford that :(

I think it's more along the lines of how densely populated it is, in city bowl the number of potential clients per square km is 10x higher or more than out in the suburbs. You don't have to lay a lot of fibre to get a crap load of subscribers. Out in the suburbs you have 1 subscriber every 400 meters if you're lucky.

ISP's charge close to R1.2k for 100 uncapped, Vuma's cost to ISP is R849, a lot less profit ;)

They are probably putting sabotage mechanisms on the other lines whilst they have the cables exposed.

So offer those others who cant afford it, a smaller package.

Link Africa is rolling out in our area at the moment. Good news for me, but my brother is unhappy at the moment, as he can't get Fibre in Observatory, yet I can in Deep South.

Fibre rollout is not just happening in the city centre, its also happening in suburb by suburb...

yeah, have seen the Vumatel guys working in the area. Should complete end 2016. 7 more months of Telkom Black Friday deal and then off to Crystal Web, can hardly wait :)

Will have 123Net by the time Vuma gets here. Probably for the best with the prices ISPs on Vuma charge.

You .... well i guess you already have it, don't you :p

I doubt the Cape Flats will get fibre in the near future.
