Vumatel has finally come to our area.

To much to dismay, instead of digging trenches they have erected big black poles in our neighborhood.

I feel this is extremely ugly and devalues our neighborhoods property prices.

Is there any action I can take to have it removed?

Don't you have telephone poles in your area, they are painted black/dark brown as well.

Anyway your houses value will probably remain the same or increase if you have them install fibre into your house.

Besides the property value. It is absolutely hideous. They dug trenches in the upper class areas such as Northcliff, Linden, Sandton etc. But they seem to be erecting these monstrosities in the lower middle class areas.

I know they took them down in Westdene when the residents complained, I'm just hoping our community can get together and have them taken down.

Maybe take it up with the owner of the sidewalk.

I guess this is an area that has never had Telkom phone lines (which uses ugly big black poles too)?

I will have to get the community together on this one.
That argument doesn't make sense when they are digging trenches in the richer areas and erecting big black poles in the middle/lower middle class areas.

They digging trenches in our area - and we definitely not a rich area. They must have some other criteria that determines whether poles or trenches.

It's probably the fact that they know that they will be able to recover the cost for trenching from these upper class areas as they are gauranteed many people will take up their services.

If your area has a body corporate, then speak to them and and let them liase with community members on their feelings.

They then need to set up a meeting with vumatel to ask what they require in order to trench instead of using poles (they will tell them that they need a number of guaranteed take ups)

Vumatel will going hybrid in our area. Aerial using electricity poles and trenched on the other side. They do not have permission to plant additional poles.

Honestly having experienced both trenching and having poles put up , poles are less of a headache , less issues for us, in Vumas case it's easier for them to get permission to put them up and yes cheaper.
Do you own the sidewalk where the poles are located? Is the pole blocking the entrance to your property?

I don't mean to sound rude but dont carry on like an entitled Prick - do you guys want fibre or not?
Your claim about it devaluing your property is absolute nonsense, If anything having fiber may increase the value.
Have you never seen Street light or Telkom poles?

We still have a mess in front of our property where trenches were dug in the middle of a drought, and the grass has had no chance to regrow.

You can always pay a contractor to trench instead of putting up a pole. Average costs are R1K per meter, so chose carefully...

Will post when I get a chance.

Strewn across your entire neighborhood. They are as high as your average street lights.

Lol, we have been having it since 1652, you were probably born yesterday.

In my area there were already telkom poles and electricity poles, yet vuma put up new poles. Not sure why they didn't sign a deal with the pole owners to use the existing poles.

Telkom then used their existing poles for their fibre, so now we have two fibre providers and three different types of poles.

The plastic boxes at the top of the vuma poles were also breaking and wires dangled onto the ground which took several days for vuma to fix after being reported.

because they would have to pay those providers to use the poles, and if repairs are needed they cant without their permission and you can't use electricity ones

I doubt Telkom would use vumas poles as a fibre network, they will use it as an ISP through, but it still belongs to Vuma.
