Amazing how everyone is squeezing a turd now that one company is doing better than the others in the market.

The same people were conveniently quiet when Telkom had effectively 100% control over the ADSL market for much longer than a decade and before then for multiple decades where you literally had no other option and were forced borderline by the law to only use Telkom.

If you came from the dialup era through ISDN and then ADSL and now on fiber. The current fiber pricing is an absolute steal compared to anything we had before.

TLDR; There is by far worse things to fight over in this current economic climate than fiber pricing. Fiber pricing is actually one of the good stories in this **** country yet we actually choose to moan about it.
Who exactly ignored that? This entire forum exists because of it.

And just cause fiber is about the same price as ADSL was then, doesn't make it right, ADSL was overpriced and now the fiber from Vuma is, two wrongs don't make a right.

I also have the misfortune of being stuck with only Vuma, which means it's not worth my while to dump AfriHost.

When was MyBroadband founded?

MyBroadband was started in 2003 (known then as MyADSL) as a forum to address broadband problems which existed in South Africa at the time.

Hi, our strategy and goal is to roll out and connect as many South Africans as possible, as quickly as possible, to meet needs where connectivity has become critical. This, while other FNOs might have not rolled out as many homes. Building sustainable infrastructure and a future-proofed network requires significant investment. The 10/10 and 20/20 packages offer a significantly better connectivity experience. Please note that retail prices, cost to the end user, are set by the ISP.

First scheduled a downgrade from a 20/20 line to a 10/10 line at RocketNet on Vumatel, then decided to cancel with RocketNet all together and move to Mind the Speed to save another R105 per month.

However now decided not to jump to Mind The Speed immediately before line release and rather started monitoring our data usage to see the actual amount of data we use before going for fibre again.

LTE might be an option for our usage comprising of streaming and browsing etc. without any gaming and whatever else being done.

For now we will be without fibre come 1 June.

I complained about Telkom ripping us a new one when they had the ADSL monopoly,so now what?

Should I just keep quiet when we have a new monopoly ripping us a new one again?

I am in Panorama in the Parow area. A second fibre line was installed in our area a few months back, since then no communication. Looks like we are stuck with Vuma.
Surely there must be something that that can be done about their charges. I am with VOX and they are the cheapest at the moment.

Indeed. It is a massive success story. It demonstrates what happens when Government gets the **** out of the way and lets the free market take over.

People are 99.5% armchair whiners. Back when this forum's roots were around activism against Telkom only a handful of people actually did anything that was not just complaining on a forum. Most are not around here anymore. Broadband is now accessible and affordable. There is plenty choice in the market with a range of pricing. That means it is a healthy market.

Yes there is, cancel. Only a fraction of people who think they need fibre actually do.
