Vumatel - Cool Ideas 100mbps fiber more problems than anything else

Hi guys

I have been on a 100mbps vumatel line for a month now. I chose Cool Idea's as my ISP since their policies and support seem to be intact. I started on a 50/5 line on the 1st of October and upgraded the end of October to 100mbps.
30% of the time there is a problem. Low connection speeds, no connection or very bad international traffic. Tonight while watching movies it got so bad that we could not continue. Normally on international movie sites it would buffer on anything that doesn't come from Google Video. Tonight nothing seems to work. We are getting less than 3/3 on our 100mbps line to johannesburg... we live in johannesburg. There is no notice anywhere of any problems of Vumatel. How do i move forward from this? test.jpg

I really dont know but all i know i am sticking with my adsl line as it serves my purpose, it works for me. there is fibre here but on Vumatel, they are new but but i would rather stick with what i know than what i dont, I guess this is a sticky one as i remember with the old dslam ports there was congestion, just wondering if it could be the same with fibre, too many users not enough backhaul..????

I'm also on Vumatel trenched (apparently there are a number of issues with Vumatel Aerial) and have none of these issues. Looking at your ping, it seems likely that there is an issue with the fiber to your property. I'm sure @PBCool will help sort you out.

As for sticking with ADSL, that depends on how bad your ADSL is. Mine was unusable with a max speed of about 2 Mb/s, often less.

Cool Ideas have a sterling rep so I’m sure that @PBCool will look into this and help you figure it out.

What router are you using? What is your network topology like? I mention this because I saw some speed issues myself (my fibre is only 1 month old) and had no idea that my network was in such disarray.

Who knew my elite USG router would act up, that my software controller was hanging in the balance and that I had a faulty Ethernet cable (I make my own cables).

So yes, things are not always so simple...unless you are hooked up directly to the ONT (which isn’t really possible).

i am in Radiokop, Roodepoort on Vumatel Aerial. I am using the tp-link supplied by cool ideas. and i have tested multiple lan cables. The problem is that 70% of the time the internet is 100% but its the 30% that i need it the most that it goes haywire

OK so you’re on a different “segment” to me. I was wondering if you were in Helderkruin/Wilropark/Roodekrans.

Is there a Radiokop thread where you can compare to other users?

I have the same issue, but I doubt it has anything to do with Cool Ideas, I suspect a issue with the network. I am on Fibrehoods aerial and most of the time its fine, but the last 48 hours have been a bit odd. Upload is faster than download!

Vumatel support SUCKS. My package was changed to 20/20Mbps when they bought Mitsol (my previous l2 provider) in early October while I was told that the packages would only realign to Vumatel's pricing from January.

After running around calling Mitsol/Vumatel/CISP I've been waiting for weeks for the line to be changed back to 50/25Mbps by Vumatel and all they will tell me is that their "configurations team" is now looking at the ticket and they will not provide phone numbers or email addresses for managers or this mysterious team. The latest ticket has been open since Wednesday (the 1st) with no action.

When my line speed was incorrect upon first signing up with CISP through Mitsol it took Mitsol all of an hour to get the speed sorted.

This post might be out of place but just needed to rant on a thread that was relevant to Cool Ideas and Vumahell.
Every time I phone them I lose a few thousand brain cells.

I'm in the North Riding area on Vuma aerial with a 100/10 package from Cool Ideas and I have nothing but great things to say about my service...Its very fast despite being permanently on a VPN (yeah, paranoid about security online) and support from CI is awesome...

Yup, have to say i've been with Cool Ideas for around 4 months now and I can safely say I have yet to have 1 problem. 100/10 has been perfect, always ready and never lets me down and it's always full speed.
I'm sure CISP will resolve your issue.

Have the same setup here, Vumatel with Cool Ideas on a 100/100 package. Zero issues over the last month. Hopefully the OP gets sorted soon!

Have been with Cool Ideas / Vumatel trenched 100mb/100mb since May. Not ONE issue experienced to date. Awesome experience!
