Woohoo!! Our area is now live!

Vuma emailed me last night.

VUMA is happy to announce that after many hours of trenching, hauling and splicing of fibre, blocks in phases 2 of Sonneglans are now LIVE! The next blocks will follow shortly, so stay tuned and get ready to experience the exciting world of high-speed broadband. If you have placed your order, our scheduling team will contact you shortly to set up a suitable time and date for your in-home installation.

So finally I got the call to schedule an install for tomorrow! I'm so over crappy ADSL already!

Installation took a little over 2 months from the first email from Vumatel saying my area qualifies to me being connected. Not bad at all!

Does anyone know when the rest of Northwold (More specifically, The area marked in the first post of this thread) is going to go LIVE? Vuma has finished installing in the complex and I have put a pre-order in with Cool Ideas however nobody can even give me a reliable estimation.

So replying to myself in case there are any other members staying in the forgotten side of Northwold.
I spoke to Vumatel today and they redirected me to Fibrehoods. Apparently, Vumatel has handed over the incomplete side of Northwold to Fibrehoods to manage.

Fibrehoods will be determining when the rest of Northwold will be going LIVE and do not have an estimation date.
They are hoping to light up the area by the end of June but I am somehow doubting it.

Update: After speaking to Fibrehoods, they have clarified that they will be handing the network back to Vumatel in the next week or so. Vumatel will then continue with their portion and go LIVE. Still no delivery date.

Really hoping this is completed soon. Patience is a virtue.

Another update: I got a call from Vumatel on Tuesday, 11th July to schedule an install for Thursday, 13 July 11:30 as they said the area had been made live. Awesome news. Took time off work, waited until 11:45 but no one showed. I called Vumetal to be told that Fibrehoods is managing the area and basically no one would be arriving. Apparently the consultant attempted to contact me to cancel my appointment. After a few angry words, A Vumatel technician arrived at my doorstep at 2 to do the install.

An hour later, the technician completed and attempted to plug in the CPE but to his dismay the blue light just kept flashing. No one had told him he was coming to do a dead install as the complex isn't hooked up to the main fibre line.

So, I have a CPE but no Fibre. Fibrehoods keep changing their story from not knowing what's going on, to the job will be completed sometime next month (They told me this in June, for July).

All in all, this has been a very painful process as it looks like neither Fibrehoods or Vumatel want to take ownership of the area, and if Fibrehoods is responsible, the area is still far away from being made live even though the main lines are installed. Both Vumatel and Fibrehoods needs to sort out the area.

By the silence of this thread, I can't tell if there are other people trying to get this area live? (Rest of Northwold, near golden harvest park)

Spoke to a Vumatel tech the other day and he said the area is definitely live? Have you been connected?

After reading this thread I feel a lot better for not being the only 1 with a headache.

I live in Libanon Estate in Kameeldoring street. They finished the fibre all the way up to the wall box of my unit. Got thousands of ISP's trying to sell me fibre.

I accepted Afrihost and C Fibre quotes and told them first come first serve to who ever can get the installation done.

6 weeks later I am still fibre-less and Vumatell Installation team is ignoring my mails and ISP's trying to get an ETA on the installion at my premises.

Vumatel website shows area is live , ISP says vumatell say it's not.

Looks like 1 big confusion, which is creating a headache.

Let me know if any of you manages to book an installion, I'd like that guys number to hook me up :p

I'm in a house in Witdoring street, and mine was done almost 2 months ago. Maybe there is an issue with the fiber in your estate?

I ordered fiber on the Vumatel website and I also placed an order with Cool Ideas. I would do that first if I were you. Cool Ideas kept me up to date every day with progress emails.

Sonneglans went live as far as I know as well, I would suggest that you give Vumatel a call and throw some bad words around. Try get through to the scheduling department and speak to there manager. (You need to get through to the managers else you are wasting your time.). Emails are not effective.

dieterlubbe got lucky, I haven't had a single bit of feedback without it being forced (from both cool ideas and vuma/fibrehoods).

A little bit of good news from my side though, The rest of Northwold by Golden Harvest has been set to Live and fibrehoods have said they will most likely set the complex live by the end of the week. (Crossing fingers) This has been the longest wait but hopefully it will be worth it.

For the rest of the complexes that have not been trenched, Fibrehoods is now responsible to get all complexes/units live. (Unsure about Sonneglans, but your complex installs should already be complete)

The content in threads like this, while informative, gives me major concerns about the roll out of fibre (irrespective if it's Vumatel or OpenServe) in my neighbourhood (Lord knows when that will be!).

Most folk on this site are either IT pro's, IT literate or a combination of the both. However, put yourself in the shoes of the average consumer. This would be regarded as an unmitigated disaster.

I can only hope that things will get better as more fibre installations are done (hey, I can dream, right?) and the likes of Vumatel will improve their processes and integration with ISP's.

I have seen some really efficient installs, dieterlubbe went through a painless experience (except for the waiting). You get these cases where half a job is done and since there is no push from us, infrastructure guys just sit back.

I've just had a chat with fibrehoods, Looks like they will fail to deliver by the end of this week (Not surprised). What does surprise me is how this area has been in build status for nearly a year? How does planning fail so badly? You can't run a project and not set a deadline. So over this right now, Both Vumatel and Fibrehoods have disappointed me with their sub par performance. I've seen majority of the areas go up in a month i.e Sonneglans, part of Boskruin.

PBCool better not screw me around once the complex finally does get lit, I've had their router sitting in a corner for 2 months now, waiting to be used.
Hopefully there will be better performance from them.

Our part takes the time to create an account on our side and give you the details, so pretty hard to screw up :).

I keep coming back to this thread to vent my frustration. It has been just under 3 months since installation was completed within my complex, after numerous phone calls, emails and tweets I find myself in a circular cycle. I was told last week that someone would be out before the end of the week to sort out the complex but it never happened. Now I've been told that a sweep will be done of the complex to determine if all cabling is ok before going live before the end of this week or sometime next week. Keep getting relative completion dates that keep changing and it is insane.

Best thing is that you can hold no one accountable for failure to deliver, both Vumatel and Fibrehoods know that this project has passed its completion date but continue to piss off the people who are suppose to support them.

I'm sorry if this seems like a rant post, but it is. I just don't understand how a process breaks this badly.

Anyway, Enjoy your weekend.
