Looks like most of the trenching and laying of pipes is complete in the Parow North, De Tyger area.

Anyone have any idea how long it takes for the fibre connection guys to come out and do their thing?

They just started blowing in fibre as far as I can see - there isn't any in my wallbox yet. Also much "repairing" of sidewalks and stuff to still complete. So don't get too excited too soon. I'd give them another 2 to 3 weeks to complete the fibre and POP installation, at least.

Does anyone know where the POP is being built?

POP is at Panorma Primary School as per the townhall meeting that I attended.

Our streets in Parow North all have wall boxes already. Also, from speaking to the guys that worked in our street and actually watching them install, the fibre cable is already laid.
Every 2 houses has a black box built into the pavement which is the access point that links the wall boxes to the fibre cable. Only thing that needs to be done is the fibre needs to be pulled to the wall boxes and and spliced into the cable already laid.

Then we wait for it to be lit up.

This is the communication we received this morning:

"Parow North which DTE fall under is scheduled to go live in mid-June. If residents have already pre-ordered then they will be contacted as soon as the area goes live to arrange their in-home installation"

So I saw the Vumatel Fibre Splicing team is working in our area yesterday.
Guys were still working at about 8pm last night out of the back of their trucks on Herbert Baker. Saw another van on Hannes Louw at the sidewalk box as well.
Decided to peep into our wall box this morning and lo and behold, i saw what I think is fibre cable. Was empty on Sunday when I last checked. Hopefully soon.:D

I fall into area 4, which is the smallest and closest to the sidewalk boxes. So hopefully we will go quickly and light up soon.
Area 1 is by far the biggest.... read into that what you may. LOL:whistling:

Fiber cable is already in and the exchange has been updated. The MSAN's need to be fitted and testing will then commence, there after fibre will go from Dark to Active.

Knocking on Telkom's Technical Service's door really hard helps, but yes, the larger areas will get fibre first.

Just got latest Vumatel update for our area, and email says we will go live by the end of the week.

Then I guess we wait on the installation teams to connect us to the home.

Cant handle the waiting any longer:mad:

Now, do I roll the dice and cancel my LTE before the end of the month?

I am in the same boat. Dont know how long installation is going to take though. Cant be without internet for more than a couple of days.

I wouldnt yet, you never know if there will be teething problems with fibre, how long installation will take, etc etc - I plan to keep ADSL for the month that fibre is activated and installed.

I have to agree. Cant take the chance. Maybe get connected with a 4mbps account once Fibre active and installed , and then upgrade at the beginning of next month to 100mbps. At least it wont be that harsh on the pocket.
