Received a notification that Vumatel will be commencing work on 07 March to install fibre in Kensington and some parts of Bezuidenhout Valley.

If anyone is keen to share info on progress (I'll try and do so aswell) they can share it here.

Notification: The wait is finally over! VUMA is excited to announce that we will begin deployment of the fibre network on 07 March 2018. We are delighted to begin the project that will get the suburb connected to VUMA's high-speed broadband network. We look forward to working closely with the community to ensure the successful installation of VUMA's fibre infrastructure.

The only issue they changed the coverage area 4 times and now not part of the role out but know some people that are signing up.

Lot of schools in the area so know where fibre will be.

Pole has been installed outside my house today. With regards to which ISP, I've signed up with WebAfrica due to them covering the installation costs and no longterm contracts.

Status update from Vuma:

65% of the civils work in the area is complete. This means that we are one step closer to getting you connected to super-fast VUMA Fibre. We will continue to keep you updated on the progress of the project.

Latest on my install: Pole installed, cables connected to a box on the pole, waiting patiently for news from WebAfrica (my chosen ISP)

Anyone found a list of ISP's who cover install and fibre router costs?

Also interested in ISP choices. On a side note, too early to put a cancellation in for my ADSL? I suppose I have to accept that there will be an overlap between the cancellation and the installation hey?

Might be best to order through Vumatel directly so they just do the install (once-off cost of ~1.8k which can be paid over 6 months from what I've read) and then you can sign up with an ISP whenever you are ready to get rid of the DSL.

Update from Vuma on the area: VUMA is happy to announce that construction is well underway and the fibre roll-out project is running smoothly. 90% of the civil work required for the project in the area is complete.

If you want to view the packages available in Kensington you can use this link: https://sp.vumatel.co.za/Products?latitude=-26.1953614&longitude=28.097636899999998

Regarding my install: Was chatting to the team splicing the fibre at my pole and they said everything was pretty much done as they could already push traffic over the link, last step would be the in-home installation. I've also seen Vuma sales reps walking around the neighbourhood.

Telkom's days are numbered :p

What ISP did you choose?

My DSL is also misbehaving, getting 6Mbps on a 10Mbps line. I'm using Rain LTE as a primary for now.

No other Fibre providers in your area?

They went with Cool Ideas and package Ultra Cool 50/50 with the total cost of the internet was the same price as telkom + vox

No Rain LTE where i am at tried a external antenna , tried telkom LTE as well but it up and down speed wise.
Adsl pay for 10mb but jumps between 2mb and 5mb Telkom been out new router ect ect.
Below link to where +- on the map.

I mailed Cool Ideas yesterday cause ( linkafrica ) http://www.linkafrica.co.za/ says i can get connected but as per site.

PLEASE NOTE: Not all addresses within the mentioned areas are all covered by fibre infrastructure and are subject to confirmation of coverage by the Cool Ideas and Link Africa teams.

I'm thinking of cancelling my WebAfrica order and going with CoolIdeas aswell, way less admin.

Never heard of Link Africa but I see I'm also covered, please share if you manage to make progress with them.

Vumatel have given end of May as an indication for when the construction work should be completed, hopefully they meet their expected deadline...

Selected an initial package but since changed my mind. Even necessary to try change with vuma? Do they call you to confirm order first?
